Please help me fix my dress, Bees!!!
I got a lovely wedding dress from Dolly Couture. It’s modified from the original with many custom changes (champagne with ivory polka dot overlay; black sash; longer skirt almost to my ankles; a-line skirt). The generic looks like this:
When the dress arrived it was lovely BUT:
1. They forgot to put the lace trim on the illusion sleeves.
2. The bodice was waaaay too big.
I called them and they were SUPER nice! Very supportive, and said they would pay for the alterations!
So… I took it to a bridal store here and they were total, complete and utter BITCHES (and i do not use that word lightly). They basically said my dress was s*hit, obviously not made by a professional and that they could do the alterations but it would be SO SO SO HARD and would cost $500. Something about if you take in the bodice (the seams are on the side) then they would also have to detach from the skirt and take in the skirt (which has a seam at the back). They wouldn’t even discuss doing partial alterations with me. She was really rude and mean. It was a terrible experience! I wanted to cry!
So I took it to my old tailer who’s this awesome old world kind of guy from europe. He pinned it just right and it looks great pinned. But when i asked him “honestly, have you done this type of work before and would you feel comfortable with it?” he said he would rather i take it to a woman across the way.
OK. So i looked up Yelp reviews of this woman and they are SO hit or miss. (check out http://www.yelp.com/biz/galleria-tailors-and-cleaners-san-francisco)
I then called Dolly Couture and ask them what to do and they said they are really suprised, that the dress is usually really easy to tailor and should only cost $100 (which again, she would pay for). She said I should go to this new tailor and see how much they would do it for, but also that if I had the tailor take my measurements, she would SEND ME A NEW DRESS (for free) which would arrive in 2 or 3 weeks. But that will then be only one month or three weeks before my wedding on August 2nd, therefore I would then not have any time to get it tailored further if I needed it. What if that one doesn’t fit well either??
What should i do? Tailor the current dress or have them send me a new one? Or does anyone know a good tailor in the SF Bay Area??
I really didn’t budget this added stress into my wedding planning!!
