I have decided to do my own centerpieces… I will be purchasing the flowers from Sam’s Club at a great great price. I can do each centerpiece for around $20 a piece and then hopefully sell the vases and curly willow after the wedding to make some of my money back, yea!
Now this is where you come in… I am having trouble deciding between white calla lilys or white hydrangea. It’s one or the other because it’s too expensive to do both. I think I will include about 4-5 flowers per vase. I definitely will be incorporating curly willow and river rocks into the centerpieces because I am going for a modern/rustic but simple feel. Here are some centerpiece inspiration pictures I have found.
My venue is beautiful! It is lined with windows and white walls, newly remodeled with dark wood floors. Thanks for all the help!!

If you had a summer wedding I’d vote hydrangea, but I think for October I’d lean towards the calla lilies. They’re both pretty, but hydrangea just feels like June/July/August to me.

I am doing hydrangeas at my wedding because you get a lot of bang for your buck. How flower savy are you? I’ve heard that hydrangeas are rather tempermental and can not look great if they don’t have the right amount of water? I’d look into how easy each flower is to take care of yourself before you make the decision. I was going to DIY through fiftyflowers but wound up chickening out and asking my florist to do the arrangements as well because I’m not flower savy. I do agree with BunnyBride that calla lillies seem for “fall.”

I vote hydrangea. You get way more bang for your buck IMO.

@clane616: I am OK when it comes to being flower savvy. I have been reading a lot of reviews online and trying to educate myself as much as possible because I am a nervous bride and do not want to cause myself any more stress. I just can’t afford to have a florist put the centerpieces together, the average cost of one cala lilly is $10, and one hydrangea is $8! How hard is it to put 4 lilies into a vase with rocks?
Hydrageas are more delicate than lilies especially when it comes to shipping.

Lilies are easier to take care of, and I agree do go well with Fall. Also, my bouquet has both lilies and hydrangea in it so whatever I choose for the centerpieces I will still get the best of both worlds.
Thanks for the help so far, please keep it coming- this really is a difficult decision for me. THANKS!!

I have a weakness for callalilies so i voted for them

I think Hydrangia look so elegant. And I think they are more affordable.

Definitely hydrangeas – they are so much more beautiful IMO than calalillies!

@FallBride100111: A good friend of mine did the same thing for her centerpieces ( using hydrangeas) and hung crystals from the branches of the curly willow. It was stunning & very easy to assemble…I would know, I did about 20 of them in the hour and a half before the wedding. lol

I usually love calla lilies, but fr this particular idea I like the hydrangeas, The calla lilies look too bare to me

I voted Hydrangea. I love that they look so much more voluptuous. And they are actually in season for September… so technically a fall flower 🙂
I’ll be using them for my Bridesmaid or Best Man bouquets and in mine as well, and the sprays I will have on the alter of the church.
