Hi Bees,
This is my first month charting and second cycle TTC. I’m a little confused although I’ve read TCOYF. Below is my current chart (using the TCOYF app) and I’m unsure exactly where my coverline is supposed to be and how I’m supposed to interpret anything.
I’d love some insight from other bees who are more experienced with charting!
Also, one note about today’s high temp – I typically wake up at 7 a.m., but got woken up at 3:20 a.m. by a text. I was so paranoid that this was going to ruin getting an accurate temp in the morning that I ended up having a vivid dream and did not sleep super well until 7 a.m. Is it still okay to use this temp? I first took it and it showed 97.75, but the second reading was 97.70 so I recorded that…
THANK YOU!

A sustained temp shift is 3 temps at least .10 degrees above the last 6, so I would put your coverline at 97.2 and your ovulation day on CD12. Does that app not make a coverline for you? If not, I would suggest putting your data into fertility friend as it is simple to use and helps interpret your chart which is so nice.
I wouldn’t worry too much about this morning’s temp, since you already had 3 higher temps before today. So today would be 4DPO. Since you didn’t get good sleep this morning’s temp might be a little high, but that’s not going to affect your interpretation. Just don’t stress if it’s a bit lower tomorrow morning, as long as it stays above or around the coverline you’ll have a good chart. FX!

catmom17 : Thank you!! I think it’s supposed to but IDK why it’s not. I also included my FF chart below, which is different in terms of where the cover line is.
So eventhough I techincally still had remnants of my period on Day 7, that can still be counted as the first day of 6 consecutive lower temps?

I am confused about the second chart? It doesn’t look like any fertility friend chart I have seen. What is the dotted black imaginary line that goes into the future? It seems to be drawing a coverline based on imaginary data and not real data. From your actual temps, it seems like cycle day 12 is the likely ovulation date.

pearlrose : I thought I was using the FF app but it must be something else lol. Thanks so much for the insight!

Mark your temperature as “questionable” if you don’t think it’s accurate. There should be some setting for that on whatever app you’re using.
Your temperature shift occurred on cycle day (CD) 13, and the sustained temperature shifts confirmed ovulation.
Has AF (aunt flow) already come? I only ask becauase it seems like a short cycle if so.
I know a lot of bees use Fertility Friend but I highly recommend Kindara. I think it’s super user friendly and there’s a great community on that app.
Good luck and keep it up!

iamdre : I agree with
pearlrose, that doesn’t look like an FF chart and the extended dotted temp line is weird and confusing.
Yes, the last six temps can be anywhere from the start of your period. If you have a really short cycle you could ovulate the day or two after your period ends. You only have to count back six temps though becuase higher temps during your period is perfectly normal, like you see in your chart. So you don’t need to make the coverline higher than the temps on CD3-5 which is what the second app is trying to do. My money is on CD12 for ovulation, so your BD timing was great! Hope all that is helpful instead of confusing 🙂

wineandthings : thank you! AF has not come (hopefully she doesn’t lol) but I have a regular 26 day cycle so my projected start date is 2/17.

catmom17 : No, thank you! This really helps and makes a lot of sense. Last cycle (before I started temping and charting) we DTD on days 10, 11 and 13 and again had a 26 day cycle. Is it safe to assume I ovulated on day 12 or does that fluxuate month to month even if cycle days are consistent?

Don’t use more than one app … consistancy is key with temping. Choose one you like and stick with it.
your first chart looks nice and normal to me.
dont worry about this morning’s temp. Generally temping 5 days out of 7 is enough for apps to do their job. If you sleep less or more, get drunk or are poorly the temps will be a bit out. Some apps allow you to record this too.

iamdre : to me, it looks like you prob O’d on CD12 and are having a slow rise LP. That second chart is not FF, not sure— it looks kind of like the Ava charts– but not exact. Anyways, pick one (I like FF) and then try to be consistent in temp taking but don’t stress about it. Are you using OPK’s during and leading up to your FW?

Twizbe : Thanks! I tried a few different ones to see what I liked, but the first one, the official TCOYF app, I think is best. I read into it and apparantly it’s supposed to add a coverline after it detects oluvation occured, after the fact, so I’ll have to wait to see when it automatically does so.
I can exclude a temp in the app, but I just wanted to make sure I could still use it to help identify an O date

fromatoz : Thanks! No, I did not use OPKs because TCOYF basically said they’re pointless if you’re monitoring CM and temping. If things don’t work this time around, then I will try it out next month.

catmom17 : pearlrose : Twizbe : fromatoz : wineandthings : Now that I have a little more data in the app, it has automatically added a cover line and what it thinks is my most fertile day (and ovulation, which it predicts was day 15 due to the thermal shift on day 16.
Do you still think day 12 is more likely? Before the cover lines went up this morning, I thought yesterday I may have had a temperature dip indicating possible implantation? I have of course been feeling crampy with sore boobs but know the mind can play tricks when TTC so I’m keeping my emotions about all of this neutral…

iamdre : I am by no means a charting expert, but if it were my chart I’d probably still say O was on CD12 and CD13 was the start of a slow rise for you. I could be wrong though since there’s a pretty significant shift on CD16 so it’s hard to know for sure. For testing purposes it might be best to trust the app and count DPO from CD15 so you don’t end up with a ton of BFNs you might not be able to trust.
Implantation dips aren’t something you can count on, so definitely try not to read into it. Also, the sore boobs and cramping are going to be because of increased progesterone so unfortunately it could be pregnancy or just be PMS. If you’re getting symptoms from HCG you’ll get a positive test. It’s so hard to not symptom spot but if you can resist it’ll be best for your emotions. FX this is your cycle though!
