Hi ladies —
I really need your help on this one. My Mom is having a terrible time finding a dress that she likes. We’ve already looked at Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and any other dept store around us — AND David’s Bridal and even a couple Alfred Angelo plus size bridesmaid gowns.
Here’s the Stats:
– She’s 70
– She’s a size 22W (that’s a 3X)
– She doesn’t want to wear black
– She prefers that it’s long
– Suits & separates are OK
– She wants to be age appropriate but doesn’t want to look like a frumpy grandma
– The wedding is Sept 5 so anything that takes 3 months to order is out
– Preferably reasonably priced (Under $800-900)
Are there any online stores or other places you know of that we wouldn’t think of? I was recently a 14-16 myself but most of the stores I shopped at are “too young” she says. We’ve checked out a bunch of other places in our area since it’s prom season but all the styles are mostly appropriate for teenagers.
HELP! Any suggestions?
This is her backup… but she HATES it. I don’t want her to be in something she despises. I want her to feel good about what she’s wearing & how she looks.
Thanks for your help. 😉

My mom, who is also a size 22 and wanted something long and with sleeves, found a GORGEOUS Jade Couture dress for around $300. They have a great selection and I believe all of their dresses come in plus sizes. We even found a trunk show in the area where they had even more plus size samples she could try on!

My mother (a size 20) also bought a Jade Couture. Her’s was around $500 with tax and everything. It looks beautiful on her, really slimming. It’s shown in black, but my mom got it in a dark teal.
I would look into Jade by Jasmine and Montage by Mon Cheri, they both have beautiful MOB dresses and I’m pretty sure they rush order.

My mom is an 18W and wanted something long and flowy and not to heavy (August Wedding)
She fell in love with almost everything she tried on from the Capri line by Mon Cheri
This is what she ended up with.

Oh thank you! Thank you!!! This is awesome ladies.
@ zippylef – that’s almost exactly what my mother’s looking for (only not strapless). Running to check out these sites now & I’ll pass it on to my Mom.

Try Dillards.com they have a great selection of quality plus sized formal wear at decent prices. Easy to return if not the right fit.

I can’t get a picture, but I really like the Shantung Portrait dress at dress barn. Basically its a taffeta shirt dress with a substantial collar, cinched waist and stick out skirt. It isn’t long, but it will be age appropriate and fun.
