Never been to Sandals, but I love Ocho Rios and Dunn’s River Falls is a must! Beautiful waterfall, but don’t go off too far from it, lots of locals trying to sell things. If I remember right neither of the airports are very close by, but there is a large price different between the two, at least when I checked. The whole ride was mainly just hills and trees. Have fun, it’s one of my favorite Caribbean destinations!

@BlueDiamondBride:  hey there, I have been to the Sandals in Ochos Rios and it’s very nice.

Definitely fly into Montego Bay.. the drive isn’t scneic no matter which direction you come from. Montego goes around the coast and Kingston is however pretty scary in some places.

An excursion we did (and loved) was Dunns River falls.

I don’t want to be a debbie downer but the Ochos Rios property is not my favourite in Jamaica. The beach is kind of small and not that amazing. If I can reccomend one property, it’s the Sandals Royal Caribbean. http://www.sandals.com/main/royal/rj-home.cfm It’s on a private island.

Next door to Ochos Rios is also the very romanitc Sandals Royal Plantation which I also really love and it’s all butler.

Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions πŸ™‚ My fiancee is a travel agent and you can book with him if you want and he’ll give you a discount πŸ˜€

@BlueDiamondBride:  We also chose Jamaica for our honeymoon! But, we ended up choosing Secrets St James/Wild Orchid Montego Bay. We’ll be flying into Montego Bay of course. Also.. we have the same date!! πŸ™‚ When are you going? We’re leaving Nov 18th and returning Nov 23. I wish it could have been longer lol.

@bretonvirgniia:  I agree with this. I’ve been there 21 times (to Jamaica) and stayed all over but Ocho Rios wouldnt be first choice for honeymoon. Most tourists fly into Mobay (Montego Bay). The road is built up so it’s now an easy drive from there to Ocho Rios.

@BlueDiamondBride:  Ocho Rios lacks compared to Negril or Montego Bay. I havent stayed at Sandals so if you are looking for certain rooms then I guess that is your reason. IMO the only good part of Ocho Rios is Dunn’s River Falls. I would stay in Negril or Montego Bay.

However, if you dont care about the beach or what is in the local area and you like that one resort then I would stay there. I think I have stayed in Ocho Rios at least 7 times at 4 or 5 different resorts over the past 11 years. You can get ants in the room no matter what floor you are on. I usually get them.

What else are you and your FH looking to do?

@BlueDiamondBride:  it’s more of a “party” hotel…not exactly romantic/private. if you’re looking for privacy, the Royal Plantation or Royal Caribbean are way better options. They are smaller than the Grande Ochos Rios but much more intimate and private.Negril is supposed to be amazing too but i’ve never been.

@BlueDiamondBride:  if I can make a suggestion, I would say check out the Sandals properties in St Lucia. I think you’d really be into that especially since you aren’t huge beach people – there are alot of activities there. Plus it’s way more romantic than Jamaica.

I’ve stayed the the Sandals Grande St Lucian and loved it. They have private suites with their own pools there which are very nice.

Another resort to check out there is Ladera.  http://www.ladera.com/

Jade Mountain http://www.jademountain.com is also amazing but quite expensive.

@BlueDiamondBride:  I’m actually really excited that you asked! Couples Barbados used to be the Almond Causarina which I have been too. It is hands down my faovurite beach in the Caribbean (dover beach) and the area it’s in (St Lawrence Gap) is amazing too.

Almond Causiarina was a 3 star property, couples is a 5 star brand. They have just purchased the Causarina recently and are spending $3 million on renovating…including a new pool, jacuzzi, decor, spa, gym, piano bar, etc.

Lots of actitives in Barbados too, we swam with the sea turtles and loved it.

Personally, I would highly highly reccomend visiting this property. We plan to go on our mini-honeymoon.

Also, if you want to get crazy you can easily island hop from Barbados to St Lucia for pretty cheap. Last I checked it’s like $120
