Hi there, Bees!
My SO is ready to make the big purchase any day now and I am so excited! Before going ring shopping at the mall, we were 110% sold on a moissanite stone from moissaniteco.com, but we hadn’t picked out a style or anything since we weren’t sure what ct sizes, settings, etc. we would like on my finger.
Being a girl who is all about the bling (half of my things at home are rhinestoned!), I knew I was interested in halo settings, and we both truthfully expected that center stones around 1 ct were going to be the ones that wowed me. Instead, when I would put on the rings with the 1 ct center stone plus a halo, I would immediately say that they were too big and instead put on stones more in the .3-.4 range. I wear a size 6.5, but my fingers are very short, so I think that contributed to those rings looking especially huge on me.
However, in looking back at the photos we took on that trip, I’m thinking that perhaps the reason that I didn’t like the larger center stones was because those rings had much chunkier/wider halos, making the entire surface of the ring far too big. I tried on a .5 ct with a medium-sized halo that was a little large, but probably just right once I have gotten used to wearing a ring.
My mom, when she saw the pictures, agreed that the biggest stones with the large halos were maybe too big for me, but encouraged me to lean on the bigger side, since she thinks I will want a bigger one once I’ve gotten used to it a little bit, and because halos can be difficult to upgrade a center stone with. I do see her point and don’t want to be enamored with my ring at first, only to get used to it and wish I had gone a bit bigger.
When we started looking more seriously at specific styles on the moissaniteco.com website, we realized how difficult it is to find center stones under a 1 ct equivalent. This was really worrying me and making me upset that perhaps moissanite wouldn’t work for us, until I found the petite halo style, where the halo is so thin (and the band too) that it doesn’t add much to the center stone’s size and still appears dainty although the center stone is still a fairly large size.
The problem is, we would really like to have the chance to try on a ring like that– around a 1 ct round center stone with a very thin halo and band– locally (any kind of stone is fine, just to have a good look at the size). Have you seen anything like that in stock as you have been trying on rings? I really want to be sure of the size before my poor SO orders it, proposes to me with it, and then I regret having gone with the bigger center stone.
Thank you so much for any suggestions you might have!!!
Here’s a link to what it looks like on the website: http://www.moissaniteco.com/round-brilliant-moissanite-diamond-petite-halo-engagement-ring-p-13100.html
But it looks a little different in person… here’s a link to another Bee’s post that has this ring (hope that’s okay!): http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/my-beautiful-petite-halo
(She has a 2 ct but she has such long lovely fingers she can pull it off!)
And someone posted these videos of her 1 ct on another website (can’t find the actual post or else I would link it, sorry!): http://s1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/fireweed29/?action=view¤t=video2.mp4
