Our package was $1300 for 6 hours day of coverage, CD, editing and engagement shoot.

I was originally hoping to spend under $1,000 but didn’t like any of the portfolio’s I looked at in that price range.  It’s going to depend on area, but I don’t think you’ll have a problem finding a photographer you love with a $3k budget!  Pick your photog by who you get along with best too.

I think it is definitely regional and the price depends on that. Our photographer is a photo journalist M-F and does wedding photography on teh weekends. He is very talented and his packages run from $1200-3000 with additional add ons as an option. I think you can fine someone within that budget in most areas.

@RoyalTheoStace:  Where do you live? Are you in a metro area or more rural/suburban? You should be able to find a good photographer with a $3,000 budget unless you’re in/around a city.

@RoyalTheoStace:  This question comes up once a week, if not more often.  I’ve seen price ranges from people here from zero to over $6000.  In most major metro areas a decent full time professional’s rates will start at $2500 and go up from there.  You can always always find cheaper photographers, but it comes down to profesionallism, skill, and experience.

I live in Houston – a huge city and above the cost of weddings here is above the national average. We have a very good photographer, and we are paying $2900 (including tax) for 12 hours of coverage, an engagement session, and full rights to the photos, with a USB drive with all of the photos. The package includes 2 shooters. Our photographer is Mustard Seed Photography – if it helps, you can check out their website with our package price in mind, that might help you gauge what you get for $2900 in Houston, and I assume it would be scaled back in Grand Rapids since that’s a much smaller metropolitan area.

@RoyalTheoStace:  I live 30 mins from GR, Small world 🙂  FWIW, my MOH paid $3k with buying the rights to her pics and I don’t think they’re worth that much more than mine, but to each their own!

EDIT: My package also includes 2 photogs, forgot that fact!

I’m in Alberta, Canada. Everything is expensive here! I’m paying $1900 for an up and coming that I love. My first choice was $3800 and way out of budget.

I’m in NJ, and had a hard time finding something less than 3K.  I chose the cheapest I found that I liked, and it was $4400.
