acsweetpea:  edit about my last post! Just found an old post that I posted on the bee about THE SHOP asking me for $150 (not $105) for the maxi skirt + 30% for a partial silk fabric. My seamstress asked me for $110 for a 100% silk skirt.

Mrs.DK:  Thanks!  I wish I knew more about fabric.  All I know is that I see wedding dresses in satin that look sleek and smooth but seem to be a matte finish where as some other satin dresses seem to be extremely shiny.  I DON’T want a shiny fabric so that is what I’m worrying about right now.

I got my quotes back and I’m very close to ordering the dress in my second picture.  I believe that is a satin fabric.  I just don’t want to end up with one of the super shiny dresses I sometimes see.  Any insight anyone on why some are shiny and some aren’t?

lisa_may:  have you tried on wedding dresses at a bridal salon? The ones I tried one were very bulky as well. I think that is just how wedding dresses are structured? I tried on one MS that made me look and feel a lot bigger. It had like outside dress boning and lining then a thick inner corset.

do you have a pic of you in the dress? Is there a lot of boning in it? I wouldn’t remove layers with the boning especially if it is strapless.

Other than the lining issue is it well made?

I just wanted to share my experience with Cherry and Shop 2.0. From the beginning, communication has been great. I’ve never had a question go unanswered, and she usually responds within a few hours. Our time difference is substantial, so I could catch her on whatsapp early in the mornings. She was able to reply immediately most of the time. My dress, from fruition to completion took right around 3.5 weeks. I had some doubts on how things were going to turn out when I got my mid production pictures. It just looked really rough, but I had hopes that it would be beautiful in the end. I got my completed pictures yesterday and I think it turned out great! I paid roughly 400 for the dress, so for the price, I am pleased. I ordered another dress this morning. Its much simpler with no beading. She has given me a timeline of 3 to 4 DAYS!! I couldn’t believe she was able to get it done in that amount of time. I’ll keep everyone posted with production pics….

Here’s my first, finished dress…I’m hoping this will help some other bees who might’ve been on the fence. I know Cherry has been getting some semi negative reviews, but my experience has turned out great (after my mid-pro picture scare)

Inspiration…

I’ll attach a photo of my skirt lining that’s made out of crepe back silk satin, which means, one side is satin, the other side is matte. It’s shiny but not as shiny as Charmeuse silk. Charmeuse silk I believe is a tad shinier than Crepe back silk satin and a bit more lightweight, but still very luxurious. If you know Claire Pettibone, a lot of her dresses are made out of Charmeuse silk.

Anyway, I know that there are some really nice man made satin out there, and there are some really cheap looking ones that are too shiny like it’ll blind you lol. It looks like that all these SHOPS have really good standards when it comes to their fabrics though.

Here’s a photo of my skirt’s lining made out of crepe back silk satin.

Skirt of my sisters. I believe it’s made out of Silk Charmeuse

Heres a comparison between crepe back silk satin and silk Charmeus. You can probably use this photo to send to the shop of your choosing and let them know the type of satin that you like. This mighy be a little irrelevant because these are photos of 100% silks, but man made ones should be similar, and it sounds like you want the crepe back silk satin?

?

acsweetpea:  oops! I forgot to tag you with my response ^.

P.S. There are other types of satin, not just crepe back silk and charmeus silk, quality can probably affect the look as well, so these are probably the reasons why they all look different. I’m not a fabric expert, im only writing what I know and have learned.

Stephy33:  Hi Stephy! Thank you for your reply.

I did tried on some dresses but THE SHOP’s dress is definitely thicker and heavier. No doubt it is a very well made dress. It doesn’t fit me very well but that should be an easy fix.

My only concern is how heavy and bulky it is. While I am not gifted with a small waist, the dress made me look like a log. I am getting a corset to show more curve but with the already many layers, I doubt that I’ll be able to bear wearing a corset. I have attached some pics for more advises 🙂 I’m open to any suggestions!

Mrs.DK:  Thank you that is VERY helpful!  I definitely want something with more of a matte look.  The samples on the SHOP’s site are so small it is hard to tell what they will look like as a full dress.  I’m going to be placing my order today EEEKKK!!!  I’ll be posting pictures as they come in.  Thank you for all your help! 🙂

Hi bees! Could someone please PM the names of the Shop 2.0 and Linda’s shop? I’m not looking for a wedding dress but to have a short dress made for a steam-punk themed wedding that I’ll be attending. Thanks!!

lisa_may:  I suggest going to a higher end lingerie store. Get some shapewear. Also speak to an experienced seamstress to get their thoughts.

I placed my order with The SHOP on Thursday.  I went through consultant Liza.  I haven’t heard anything yet about it being received or how to make payment.  Should I have heard something by now?  I emailed Liza and she was really quick to respond when I was asking for quotes but I haven’t heard from her yet.  I’m probably just being really impatient but I want to get my dress started!

Am I being impatient or should I put in an order with another consultant?  If you went through THE SHOP how long did it take to get your order confirmed and started?

acsweetpea:  I contacted Irina on July 18 with detailed photos, that same day she replied. The following day I had a price quote. Between confirming fabric grade and beading detail there were a few more emails. The order was officially placed on July 23 with the price adjusted based on upgraded fabric and bead detail. I was given a September 18 date for mid-production photos.

Since then there have been many emails with questions from the production team clarifying details. August 21 I was informed that my dress frabric has been cut and is in the sewing stage. Irina has been so lovely to deal with and very quick with responding.

Since you are already in contact with a consultant I would not contact another unless you are in a time crunch and havent heard from them in over a week. It’s not a fast process and patience is key or your dress might suffer from being rushed or making changes. I know that the consultants pass everything through the Shop before responding so that may be where it’s taking more time to get back to you. Also keep in mind they may take weekends off or be in another time zone. I have also heard that gmail pushes emails to the bottom if you send more then one at a time, but I can’t confirm this. Good Luck!
