Mine is really low-set, which is good for me because I destroy rings.  I think I finally found a great compromise for my lifestyle.  It’s Tiffany, but the replicas from other companies are pretty much identical.  It still lets in enough light to make it sparkle.

Edited to add– my finger sizei s 4.5, so I feel like it’s appropriately sized/set, if that makes sense.

@moderndaisy:  Blue Nile has their own Tiffany equivalent.  So does Whiteflash and a few other reputable places online.  Just saying in case you were interested in that type of setting.  🙂

I think Excel diamonds has a very accurate Tiffany replica.

@moderndaisy:   Yeah, $1900+ for just the setting is crazy.  We price shopped all over before we bought mine.  We ended up with Tiffany because– for the stone size I wanted– it was only a few hundred dollars more.  Plus I wanted to have a physical store I could visit and get service at if anything goes wrong in the future.   Now if I wanted a much bigger stone then it would’ve been cheaper to find another vendor.  Even the Blue Nile version is $1000+ just for the setting.

Crazy pricing, I guess it’s really popular?

Sorry for not responding! I was out of town for a few days.

@moderndaisy:  Thanks! It was custom-made by a jeweler in Greenville, SC (Llyn Strong Jewelry).  The stone is an hierloom from my FI’s family.  I may end up getting them to custom-make a wedding band since my stone is set so low.

@starla:  Thanks! Although I had never seen an oval before getting my ring, I love it.

Not sure if bezels are your thing but they’re almost always super low-set. Mine’s actually a bit higher than most to accomodate the diamonds around the outside of the main diamond, it sits about 4mm from the top of the diamond to the bottom of the shank;

The designer is A. Jaffe.
