1/4ct outside bands, middle band is 1/2ct. with 1ct. Oval center,

I read somewhere that this is depended at the angles of the facets in relation to the overall depth of the stone; a jeweler told me it is caused by the stone being too deep.

When you look directly down at the stone the bowtie will be at its worst and you’ll have an idea of how obvious it is (or isn’t). My almost 2ct marquis has little to no bow tie effect but I’ve seen a similar size pear and could spot the bow tie from across the room.

There is a school of thought that says bow ties aren’t necessarily bad. Bow ties create contrast within the stone and thus illustrate depth within, creating interest.

@lulu1234:  Very pretty ring! Is that a white sapphire? The faceting looks different than other pears – to me anyway. Is it a special pear cut? Or it could just be my old tired eyes…Embarassed
