Just had to share as i have a huuge knot in my heart for the state of queensland in australia.
Cyclone Yasi has been upgraded to a monstrous category five system as it advances towards the east coast. With a width of 500km and an eye measuring 100km across.
Landfall: Expected to hit Cairns at 10pm on Wednesday
Size: 500km wide
Wind gusts: Expected to reach 320km/h
Storm surge: Predicted at 4m
Landfall: Hit Florida on August 25, 2006 and then Louisiana on August 29
Size: 640km wide
Eye: 51 km
Wind gusts: 280km/h
Storm surge: 8.5m
Damage bill: More than $100b
Lives lost: 1833

My aunt, uncle, and 3 cousins are in Cairns right now for a year 🙁 They left here at the beginning of January to do an exchange (my aunt is a teacher).
We have heard from them and they say they are very prepared. The neighbours are taking good care of them. They are also in a higher area so the high waves won’t reach them but still very scary.
