Earlier this week, our kitty Axel (who is only 3 years old) started vomiting violently. I took him to the vet, who determined that he was fine and simply had an upset tummy, so I took him home. Following that, he refused to eat or drink for the remainder of the day, so I rushed him to an ER vet at 12AM that night. Again, the vet said he was just having GI issues, gave him some special food, and sent him home. 24 hours later he still hadn’t eaten or drank a thing. I took him to the vet for a third time in two days. They kept him overnight and determined via a barium swallow (which highlights any abnormalities in an x-ray) that he has a blockage in his intestines. He’s going into surgery this afternoon.
I love my buddy so much…I’m so glad I trusted my instinct and took him back in, even after two vets said he was okay. Now I just want him to make it through surgery safely. Please send him your good thoughts, good vibes, prayers…whatever your method of choice. Thanks bees.

I just want to commend you for being such an AMAZING cat mom! Most people would have just gone home after the inital diagnoses (or not taken their cat to the vet at all) and kitty probably would have died!
He is lucky to have you!
I am sending you amazing kitty vibes as one cat mom to another! Btw he is ADORABLE!

Just an update for those who asked! Axel made it through surgery and is in recovery. It turns out part of his intestine was twisted, which was blocking blood flow and not allowing his stomach to empty. That explains why nothing was seen on the first couple of x-rays! He’s going to be at the vet for a few more days while he recovers, then he’ll hopefully be coming home on Tuesday. Thanks again to everyone for the kind words. 🙂
