The Floor:

We had our reception in a pavilion, and I opted to not have an official ” dance floor” from  the DJ in order to save some $$, but in the pictures there’s this ugly, concrete floor with weird cement patches. No one probably even noticed it but me, but it still irks me to this day!

@Mrs_Amanda:  It’s funny the things that really bug us that probably no one would notice!

My alterations for my dress were a MESS.  The only thing that really went “wrong” with our wedding day.  But it AUGHHHH makes me so angry to see pics like this (the lumpiness under the bust, a steel boning nightmare), and it looked like this ALL DAY:

A few big regrets… I don’t particularly like thinking about my wedding day, but if any of this can help another bride-to-bee, I am happy to share. 🙂

1. I regret that I didn’t put work aside in the couple of weeks before the wedding to tie up all the loose ends and drag my husband into helping me out a little more. What happened was two big wildfires broke out on either side of the river where we live, and me being a news reporter, I worked nearly round the clock on fire coverage. The community and my bosses were happy, but my workaholic nature left no time for any wedding stuff.

2. I regret trusting my in-laws’ promises to handle the food and pretty much everything they said they’d help with. Bees actually warned me, but I didn’t want to hurt my in-laws when they were already struggling to work through their issues. Their drama bled into our wedding day and the rest of us had to rush around to compensate; so many things didn’t get done and so many small moments I’d hoped to have went *poof* as a result. My parents are still angry about it, and I’m a teeny bit resentful myself.

3. I regret letting my mom talk me into a traditional, poofy, formal gown. For a beach wedding and barbecue reception. I didn’t hate my dress, but it isn’t what I had envisioned and to me it didn’t fit the general feel of the day.

4. I regret not asking for my husband’s help in securing my bustier! My mom wasn’t strong enough to fasten it and I got frustrated (which hurt her feelings) and went without any support under my dress. I’m a DDD cup. Yeah. So my dress was baggy on top and I still hate how I looked that day.

5. I regret not noticing that my mom had dramatically decided to sit in the far back corner and cry her eyes out (not from happiness) through the ceremony because my husband’s oblivious aunts took the front row seats next to my dad. By the time the ceremony started I just wanted the day over with, so Dad and I marched solemnly down the aisle in complete silence (the music had been taken to the reception site on accident), and I didn’t look at anyone but my husband because I was so upset. The ceremony had already started by the time I saw where Mom was.

6. I wish we had designated someone to watch the music at the reception. Toward the end of the evening, my Father-In-Law thought it would be better to turn our music off – the music we had spent hours selecting and downloading – so he could play a crappy country CD from his truck. On repeat.

7. Finally, I wish I had bought the PA system I found on Amazon instead of trusting the officiant’s word that she’d bring her microphone. Nobody could hear the ceremony over the ocean. Beach brides on a budget, PLEASE invest in a portable sound system!!! Cannot stress that enough. Re-sell it after the wedding if you have to, but a microphone is non-negotiable unless your wedding is so small the guests can simply stand around you in a close circle or something.

It’s really not a huge deal, but it’s the only regret I can think of – not holding up my wedding dress before the ceremony while walking around.  It got a super huge dirt mark right on the train before I even walked down the aisle.  Here is our first kiss pic, you can see how I had to kind of fold the dress over to hide the dirt.
