I’ve had an abortion and am also currently pregnant – this time with a very much wanted pregnancy. I also had a medication abortion and my experience does not sound like yours. While it was somewhat painful to pass the pregnancy the amount of physical pain you described what not was I experienced. I had cramping, passed blood clots, and heavy bleeding but I was not in agony. I bled for maybe a week and then I was back to normal. My period returned and if I remember correctly the first period post abortion was heavier but not by an obscene amount. What you are experiencing does not sound normal. I would see a doctor ASAP. Even during the physical act of passing the pregnancy I did not bleed like what you are saying and your abortion was months ago

Did the clinic you used do a follow up ultrasound to make sure there was no remaining pregnancy tissue? That’s something I’d be concerned about given the symptoms you’ve described. Even if you’re feeling better you definitely should be seen ASAP to make sure that isn’t the problem.

@leucomelas:  No, absolutely not. AVMs are congenital meaning they are present from the time *you* were born. It is a malformation that occurred when *you* were a fetus. You’ve had this all your life.

A lot of AVMs are asymptomatic, but they are basically a tangle containing weakened blood vessels that has the potential to bleed or rupture. This is not your fault and it’s potentially life-threatening so I’m very glad that you went to the doctor.

@leucomelas:  I’m so glad you got in to see the doctor when you did. It’s good that you’re catching this early and quickly. I will keep my fingers crossed for a good outcome, but do keep us updated and try not to stress too much until you’ve talked to the doctor.

The MRI description was fascinating. I’m claustrophobic and always wondered how I’d deal. You had me at the blanket straight from the warmer! I’d be all about that! Lol

@leucomelas:  wow! I’m so sorry you went through all that but really glad you found a doctor who was able to get you the appropriate treatment for your case and situation. It sounds like quite an ordeal you’ve been through but I hope the surgery recovery goes well! On the upside you’ll never need to worry about unplanned pregnancies again which is fantastic! Sending you hugs and wishing a speedy and painless recovery.
