Hey ladies! 2 things: first of all, have you changed your mind what seems like a million times about the ring you want?
Originally, I wanted a bezel set moissanite, but it’s just come to light that there’s a .5 carat family diamond I can use instead. The diamond has sentimental value. Currently it’s in a delicate bypass bezel set solitaire, which is pretty, but there are a few things I don’t love about this particular setting, and I’d like to reset it.
I’ve fallen in love with this style of setting. A few companies make a pretty much identical setting. I like that the band is plain, and the center’s set fairly low:
The thing is, when I was considering a larger moissanite, I only looked at bezel and channel settings because I did not want something snaggable. I think the 1/2 carat would look better with the halo than the settings I was looking at before. I like the look of this setting, so wouldn’t want a bezel halo. I’m afraid the halo might prove impractical, though. Could you ladies share your halo experience, pros and cons?

I have a ring with a halo! It’s beautiful and really finishes off the whole look of the ring. I haven’t found a single problem so far 🙂

is there a reason that you don’t want a bezel set halo? It was exactly what I wanted and I feel very secure with it.

Oooo – beautiful rings!
@LaraW: What kind of stone is that? It’s a gorgeous color. I don’t think I’ve ever seen your ring before, it’s gorgeous!
@msgraphics: I always admire your set whenever you post it. It’s a really beautiful look.
I don’t want a bezel halo because I really like the aesthetic of the setting I’m looking at. For this particular stone, I just think it would look better prong set.

Thank you! It’s a bluey green Sapphire in a bezel setting, the colour looks different depending on the light 🙂

I love my halo ring – that’s all I ever wanted and so I customized my dream setting! I have a 1.2 carat cushion cut diamond prong-set into a halo with a split shank… different from what you’re considering, but similar in the fact that it’s a prong-set setting.
I have never EVER had a problem with the setting in terms of snagging or getting caught in things and I have worn it 24/7 for 6 months. I think if you use the 1/2 carat diamond in a setting like the one you posted, you will love it and have no issues whatsoever.

I have a custom hand made halo setting and I love it. It’s really a stunning look, especially in dim lighting because my entire finger is always sparkling like crazy! The only downside for me is that since I started with a 2 ct diamond, it actually makes it look much bigger, closer to 3 carats which isn’t such a bad thing until I find myself in a dark alley or somewhere not so safe. So it’s not as practical to wear every day. Also, I have pave diamonds all along the band and one has fallen out already after having it for less than a year. It was a quick fix though, the jeweler put a new one in in less than 5 minutes for free.
Since you’re starting out with a smaller stone and not getting diamonds on the band, I don’t think you will have either of my problems! I love the setting you picked out, I think it’s gorgeous. It really enhances the stone!

I have never had an issue with snagging my ring on anything i’ve had it for like two months and wear it all the time other than washing dishes, cooking/baking or in the shower..
