@mscuppycake: Just reread your post. What have you felt was inappropriate about what you wore? Any chance youd be willing to share some pictures? Maybe we can help? Or maybe share what kinds of weddings you will be attending this year and we can suggest outfits for those specific events…

I love picking outfits for weddings! I usually base the formality on the venue, the couple and the time of year. Here’s an outfit I wore to a fall wedding two years ago. I plan on rewearing it next weekend. Both weddings were church weddings, and I would call them semi-formal. My Fiance will wear a suit and tie. This picture was just me trying it on. I had my hair up and actually had makeup on for the wedding, lol.

I’m planning on wearing this to a wedding this April.
I agree that most people could dress up a little more at weddings. I’d just be mindful of something so skimpy your chest is basically hanging out or you can see your underwear haha.

I wore this Modcloth dress to a wedding in October http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/the-local-muse-dress-in-coral
And this to a wedding the year before

These are the dresses I wore to the last two wedding we went to –
This one I absolutely loved and will probably wear again any chance I get!
This one I had to buy at the last minute because we were traveling and didn’t realize the wedding was “black tie” ie only long dresses until we got there. It wasn’t something I normally would have picked but I ended up loving it as well. Long dresses feel so elegant!

@HourThyme: Basically I own a lot of nightclub-style dresses but none of them are very appropriate for weddings so I’ve always tried to “cover them up” with cardigans or wear strange things like pantyhose underneath and it never seems to work.
I recently bought a TON of maxi dresses (for my big upcoming Mexico trip!), but I’m not sure if they are fitting for downtown evening weddings.
These aren’t the exact dresses but they approximately this style. Is it too “beachy” and “summery”? (The weddings are mostly in May, July, and August).

@cls9q: Aww, thank you so much! He isn’t quite my husband yet..but soon!:)

I wore this to this last wedding I was at (fall wedding.) It has a conservative look but the beading gives a bit of bling and it’s amazing for showing off curves. Darling Husband was very enthusiastic when I purchased it.
And I wore this to my SIL’s wedding which had a more formal dress code.

@mscuppycake: yeahhh I’m going to be honest and say those are too beachy for an evening look.. They COULD work for a summer wedding but if you’re already feelig like you are sometimes borderline dressed inappropriate I would select something else.
There’s nothing wrong with a classic black dress that you can dress up with accessories. I know some people say no black at weddings but a lot of people wear it. Not sure how old you are but generally when I dress for wedding I want to look good but not too sexy, there’s a lot of older people there and its a family event with pictues that will last forever so I tend to go more modest than I would at a club. But you can still do modest and attractive/sexy!
This is a sexier look I would do for a wedding. I’m the one in black to the left of the gir in white. I included everyone bc I think that other than the girl in white really most of these would be appropriate! This was for a bridal shower/bachelorette party
You could also go to Macy’s website and select “guest of wedding” for some options.
These are some dresses I found that seemed appropriate for summer weddings –they differ on level of dressiness. Depending on whether you’re at an outdoor wedding, banquet, destination etc you would adjust what you’re wearing and accessories!
This one is cute, sexy, and versatile
This one seems simple but you could jazz it up with gold accessories and woudl be great for a more low key wedding. Plus the color is fantastic with a great tan!
I could see this workign for a beachy summer wedding
This was one of my favorite guest dresses at my wedding! Loved it! 🙂

@Mrs. Wallaby: I bought it off net a porter crazy on sale. It was $60 (which is probably the cheapest thing ever sold on there.)
The label is TBags Los Angeles.
Very forgiving and comfy!
