Yea I have. But I always chalk it up to the fact that after you work THAT hard for your body maybe you’re more inclined to do other things to improve your look? (tanning, better haircut/color, manicure, etc)

Yeah.  They are tan, wearing cute clothes and/or a bikini, and have perfect makeup.  In the before pictures, they are washed out, sad looking, and wearing the frumpiest clothes you could imagine.  I bet that the fitness programs using before&after pictures for advertising go through people’s pictures and pick the absolute worst ones for the befores.

Not only do they lighten their hair, they learn to use hair products, straighten and/or curl their hair AND learn how to use makeup!!!!!!!!!

@CorgiTales:  +1 this is what I always thought. I assumed that if you lost a ton of weight, you’re probably more likely to be in a swimsuit and out in the sun.

What always got me was that you can definitely tell that people are standing differently in each picture. A better posture can make a huge difference.

That, my friends, is called marketing 😉 I’d take any/all before-and-after pics you see that are used to sell something with a GIANT grain of salt.

I remember seeing some girl posting on tumblr pictures taken within 30 seconds of another – in one she looks bloated and like she could lose a few lb. in the bell, in the next she looks like a fit, ab-alicious rockstar. The “magic” was sucking it in and not slouching anymore 😛

Also, a majority of the before/after pics for products/websites/weight loss companies are HEAVILY photoshopped.

I totally notice the tanner skin and more styled hair too.  Not exactly related to the topic, but my personal favorite “before” picture was a picture of an 8-9 month pregnant woman.  Gee, I wonder why she lost so much weight from her belly?

After working THAT hard, why wouldn’t you try to look your best in the after picture?

I also like the ones on pinterest that show the chick with the amazing body and comments like “drink tea with cinnamon and watch the pounds drop off!” or “20 jumping jacks before the shower!” Riiiiiiiiiight.

Tanning gives the appearance of slenderizing much like wearing dark clothes. it’s an illusion
