Date twin!!!

Sorry that happened. I have no idea about cost but I think you could shop around jewelers to find the best quote.

I’ve had a stone set in silver, and another time a silver ring sized. Both cost $10. I imagine prongs must be somewhere in that ballpark.

@figgnewton:  The jeweler would more than likely not just add extra prongs, he would put on a completely new head (the metal that holds the stone). Because it is silver it wont cost too much. The labor is what is added on. I would say no more than $40 -$60 or so. It could possibly be less I am just unsure exactly.

Getting a new head put on my ring cost $100 and my ring is palladium so silver should cost much less than that.

@figgnewton:  its the metal that holds the stone in. the prongs are part of the head.

Luckily you were at your desk and not out somewhere where you wouldn’t have heard the PLOP. 😉

This is just an example of the head that is connected to a ring.

Glad the stone fell out when you were right there!!!  I would strongly recommend getting the prongs made in either white gold or platinum.  Silver is no where near durable enough to secure a diamond.  I would be worried about the stone falling out all the time!

@AP1976:  +1, silver is not a good material for the prongs in my opinion, because of this risk.
