My wedding is on September 5th and I have accomplish very little. We have a venue, a caterer, a photographer, a florist, a day-of cordinator but everything else is not started.
STARTING WITH BRIDESMAID DRESSES: I ordered 3 aqua bridesmaid dresses http://bit.ly/bk1qKF last weekend from Ann Taylor. I need to either get shoes for my bridesmaid or tell them which color of shoes to bring. I am concerned about their shoe clors clashing with other colors (e.g. my own wedding shoes, groom’s tie, groomsmen’s ties, etc.). However, I am not a fan of wearing white/black shoes. Any suggestion as to which color of shoes would go with these bridesmaid dresses (in aqua):
Some add’l background about my wedding:
- the ceremony is located in a redwood grove: http://bit.ly/axF1dC
- the reception is at a boutique landmark hotel built by julia morgan: http://berkeleyhistorichotel.com/
- flower color will like be some shade of orange (e.g. burned orange). our wedding colors are orange & aqua.
- STILL NEED HELP: WEDDING GOWN
- So I haven’t finalized which wedding gown I am going with. I really liked Cymbeline Dali http://bit.ly/bo0MXX when I tried it on a few months ago but didn’t act fast enough so now I am deciding between either the Cymbeline Cybella http://bit.ly/92jAq0 or the Nicole Miller H0013 http://bit.ly/cOC7Pk in Ivory.

What about silver shoes for the girls? My bridesmaids are in a darker teal colour, but we went and had them try on all different kinds and colours of shoes, and the silver seemed best. I found that the dresses were really minimized when they put on bolder colours… so I think yours would probably be the same!!!
as for your dress, I really like the second one, but it would depend on your body. I find it strange that you see the boning in the first one… kinda like it was made really badly and they didnt seal the boning properly.

I always have the same answer to the “bridesmaid shoe” question, but it’s always true! Gold or silver (metallic) will look the best and be the most rewearable. It doesn’t matte which you choose, they are both neutrals:

Look toward the advertisement for help with the bridesmaids shoes. They’ve paired a simple silver sandal with this dress, and trust me the company wouldn’t dare put anything that would be questionable out for the public to see, so thats probably your best bet. If you want something with a low heel thats dressy yet not over-expensive, try payless or something. Here’s some great silver shoes they have. My girls are wearing the first pair with a purple/pinky wine color dress.

Thanks everyone for the prompt reply!I guess I never considered silver and gold. Just for laughs and giggles, i was actually leaning towards these 2. I guess that would have been a disaster?! 🙂

You could do a nude color, the only thing I’d be worried about is having it look more like someone had dirty feel than shoes on. Also as far as your dress goes, I would be concerned with this the most. If you don’t care about what is one the girls feet, I’d say pick a color and tell them to find their shoes.
Both dresses you’re deciding between are beautiful, and the best way to decide is really to try them both and see which you’re more comfortable in, which feels more “You” and which you’re happier in? it’ll hit you which one is right for you, but most dresses take some time to come in so you should probably try to do this ASAP.
As far as everything else……DELEGATE!!! Give your Maid/Matron of Honor or your mom things to do for the other things. Have them look into tuxedo places in your area and see if they have a website for the build-a-tux option. This helped my Fiance out a lot when he picked what the guys and himself are wearing.
Once you have your dress you can worry about your shoes too. Are you a shorter bride, average height or a taller bride? Obviously how you want to look in your dress will determine you heel height. Personally I’m 5’1″ 3/4 (yeah im short) and I have a 4.5″ heel because my Fiance is 6’2″ and I didnt want to look like gigantor and the 12 year old playing dress up.
It’ll all come together. Hope this helps! If you need any more ideas, feel free to message, got tons of ideas!

I fully agree with silver and gold. I tend to lean more towards silver, as it seems more simplistic and less flashy. It also compliments the color of the bridesmaid dresses nicer, in my opinion, and goes well with any shade of blue (I’m wearing silver shoes at an upcoming wedding with a navy blue dress).
And ArikkaLynn (#4) posted a pair of shoes I actually am going to wear for my friend’s wedding in August (the 1st pair). I really like them because the heal is low, plus they’re comfortable (and really affordable as I got them at Payless shoes!)
I think generally, the more simple, the better. The dress is really nice in it’s simplicity, and the shoes should be too. And of course, all the attention should be on you that day! 🙂
Oh, and one final thought as an option (though I still like silver), you could always dye shoes to match the dress. There’s a website I found that sells only dyable shoes, and I’m pretty sure will create a dye based on a fabric swatch you send in. So, just another option. 🙂
It sounds like you’re making a lot of progress on a lot of the big things.
Oh and another thought (I feel like this response is full of scattered thoughts! I’m sorry about that). You may want to consider, for the groomsmen, having vests or ties that match the color of the bridesmaid dresses, and then have them all wear maybe a gray suit? It would compliment the aqua/silver effect of the bridesmaids (assuming you choose to go with silver). Or, you could have a rich brown/aqua if you go with gold shoes. Though black always looks nice in a tux. 🙂

Payless Shoes may be able to match the aqua dresses when they come in. Otherwise I would choose a gold shoe, since you are having orange bouquets. What about black for the men, with aqua ties? with orange bouts with an aqua ribbon? I would have the guys go with black shoes, cause I don’t think the guys would look right in the tan or the gold shoes hee hee. I just did a search for your first choice wedding gown on PartyPop. If someone answers they will email me, and I will forward the email to you. I saw that you listed on WB classified 3 mos ago. The person on PartyPop bought the Dali by mistake and posted 3/2010, so maybe it is still brand new. What types of burnt orange/rust flowers have you thought of? Dahlias come in those colors as does the chrysanthemum. I may have seen some other flowers in those orange tones, so I will look around. I will also do some more searches for the dali. What size did you try on? You can email me if you wish. 🙂

I also ordered aqua bridesmaid dresses from Ann Taylor – the silk georgette ones and they were gorgeous. My colors were aqua with pops of pink/peach and silver accents on everything else. The colors were beautiful. Everyone thought it was beautiful.
As advice to other friends, I have always suggested a neutral color for the groomsmen – silver/platinum for their ties/vests. The groomsmen are always really happy about that. They got regular black tuxes with the shiny black shoe rentals. It’s very standard and easy.
My bridesmaids had matching silver shoes from Aldoshoes.com. Silver shoes from DSW or Macy’s would have also worked.
As for my own shoes, I picked silver with rhinestones which is very neutral and goes well with white wedding dresses.
I think the key is to keep things neutral.
I love Cymbeline dresses too. Don’t take too long to decide and end up like me, rushing with alterations. The Dali is one of my favs but it really depends on how it looks on you.
