I got married in the Virgin Islands last June and I wore the Winsome Wedding Dress made by Cherry Pie Vintage on Etsy. Here’s her shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/cherrypievintage

She also makes a short version of it, called the Darling Dress. She also has cotton sundresses and a lace tea party dress that would be wonderful for a beach wedding.

Basically, she custom-made my gown for me to my specifications. I added pockets, sent her the cotton eyelet I wanted it made out of, and sent her my exact measurements. She was awesome to work with. My dress was perfect. I also wore it in June in Minnesota for our reception. FWIW, I’m a 40DDD on top and I wore a strapless, sweetheart gown. πŸ˜‰

I think something empire waisted and flowy would look great πŸ™‚

Something like this, although not sure where you could find it.

@helena31:  You should ask her. Spring is her busy time, so custom dresses take a bit longer then. Usually in winter she’s got more time to work with. If you’re really interested, I would send her a message and explain your situation. Especially if you’re going with a shorter, less complicated dress than the ballgown. Her prices are so reasonable, you could offer to pay for an expedited dress. πŸ™‚

Also, side note, I found a bunch of really cute white cotton eyelet dresses at Marshall’s last year and I wore one at our post-reception party on the island. You might want to check there too.

@helena31:  St. Croix! We stayed on a resort on the west end of the island so our wedding was at sunset. And it was GORGEOUS. We were in cottages and ours was literally four steps from the sand. Amazing. We’re actually going back for our anniversary this June with my parents. They loved it so much. It’s so beautiful. And damn, the food is delicious and the snorkeling is fantastic! I think you’ll like staying on St. John. We loved St. Croix because it’s so uncommercialized and I believe St. John is the same way.

How many weeks do you have? We got our bridesmaid dresses at Aria and they offer a rush shipping in 4-6 weeks, which could be an option for you too. You basically custom design your dress there, picking a style you like and then choosing a skirt style to go with it. So you might look there too, if that’s enough time.

PS, this is my favorite photo:

@helena31:  thanks! πŸ˜‰ We had 22 people with us, and a dinner following. Our officiant was a ship captain and he referred to our wedding as ‘quite traditional’ because I had a bridal party AND my dad walked me down the aisle. And by aisle, I mean, out of my sister’s cottage, down the patio and onto the beach. Love.

Have you looked at ModCloth? They have a ‘plus’ section with tons of cute dresses. I love this one: http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/strawberry-iced-tea-dress  it’s looks like it could be empire waist but I don’t think it is. If you look at the back of the dress, it looks like it hits around natural waist. Anyway, they have tons of cute dresses and the 50’s style/shapes are so flattering to a curvy, busty lady.

They have swimsuits too, btw. If you don’t have at least three, you should get another. It’s so humid, your suit doesn’t dry out very quickly so you want to have one to wear, one to have in a drawer, dry, and one to have on your body at all times. πŸ˜€
