I suggest calling all of the bridal shops in your area to see if they have anything close to your size or if they don’t, see if they would be willing to see if they can get something in in your size or as close to it as possible. You might also want to research some seamstresses in your area to see if you can find one that can make one for you.

Unfortunately, you may have a difficult time finding something in your size because bridal shops generally only get samples in the smallest of sizes.

Try the gowns with corset backs. They are more accomodating for fuller figures.

Hello! I’m so glad you posted. I wear close to your size and it took me six months after I was engaged to even try anything on. I should have been braver!

I had moderate success at David’s Bridal (I could only try on 2 dresses; their largest size fits like a 22/24) but this weekend I was *thrilled* to go to Alfred Angelo and have many choices! Like eight or ten. They had samples up to a 28.

At Alfred Angelo, I could try on dresses as small as a 22 if they had a lace-up back. Also, from what I hear, samples in larger sizes (20+) seem to be closer to “street sizes” than the smaller ones.

I also have a list on my blog of a few designers I found that make dresses in a size 24+ and how much extra they charge for it. Personally, I am having my dress made… but trying on things helps *so much* when you can see it in person.

My advice is to call in advance and be very frank with the salesladies on the phone; tell them what size you wear and ask if they have any samples you could realistically try on. Their tone of voice will tell you everything you need to know. I encountered everything from genuine empathy to “Wow, you’re how big?!” and I’m glad I was able to deal with that on the phone in advance.

I loved Alfred Angelo as well.  I know that a friend is the same size as you are, and bought the dress and she LOVED hers and looks amazing in it!!! I ditto calling the stores to make sure they have something.  I called every store before I went in and they all told me the sizes etc that they had and when one had a dress I was interested in in my size, I jumped at the change to check it out.  Turns out that wasn’t the one for me, but the one I loved was there in my size so you may be surprised. I am a street size 14/16
