most of the shops aren’t “geared” to plus size women per se, but I went to Jealous Bridesmaids and they a number of plus size women there when I went.  Charmaine (the owner) is extremely sweet and very helpful, and I think she’s a good fit for a plus size bride to go see.  Remember, almost always when you go to a shop there will be all kinds of sizes for all kinds of dresses, more than likely no matter what dress you choose, the one on the rack won’t be the right size for your body..I know mine wasn’t!

I understand..give Charmaine a call and talk to her before you go if you want, she is really good.  I walked in the store and thought there was no way I was going to find something, it’s small, but she actually has quite a large selection.

The other place I would suggest is Ritche on Avenue Road, they have a large selection of dresses.

I wouldn’t suggest going to Windsor Bridal on Orfus though, they have thousands of dresses, and not only is that overwhelming, but the people working there are not friendly at all!!

A couple of years ago I went shopping with a friend (for her wedding dress) in toronto, and we found some great shops on Bloor st. (Bloor East, I think?)…anyway there were some great little boutiques that had larger sizes! It was also an intimate one on one experience as well, where you didn’t feel like you were participating in some state fair wedding dress bonanza. hah  Anyway, names escape me but I’d definitely check out some shops in that area.

Ack! Anyone else have a suggestion for this? My MOH/sister is about a size 22. I called Jealous Bridesmaids (having heard a lot of great things about them), but all their sample sizes are a 14. There’s no way I’m putting my sister through the trauma of even attempting to figure out of a dress is going to look good on her based on a size 14 sample. That’s ridiculous. Help!

oops, I didn’t realize how old this was!

I went to Best for Bride in Toronto. They were reasonably priced and had a good number of plus size dresses. I’m a street size 18 and I tried on at least 6 gowns. I almost bought a mori lee (julietta) gown but found another one somehwere else. It was a bit skecthy looking, but was a great place! Sophie’s Gown Shoppe in Kitchener or London also has amazing selection for regular and plus size if you’re willing to travel a bit!
