There have been a few threads in the past about this topic, but I wanted to put it out again. My fiance is a bigger guy and I’m a bigger gal (usually between a size 18-20, 5’9″) and I carry most of my weight in my hips and butt. I am going to do some shopping for new fall clothing anyway, but I want to keep an eye out for cute outfits for our engagement shoot which will be either end of Sept or beginning of Oct.
Any suggestions for styles or if you want to share your photos for reference that would be very helpful!
We’re both nervous about taking photos and feel like it might be awkward, even though our photographer is awesome and I’m sure we’ll feel super comfortable with her.

wear clothes you feel comfortable in.
Consider the venue/location of your pictures and make sure that you won’t conflict with the backdrops. Ask your photographer is s/he has advice about colours/patters etc that do/don’t photograph well at your selected location.
Your photographer will make you look your best, just make sure you’re wearing clothes you’re comfortable in so you won’t be tugging and pulling at them all day 😀

jlc3: If you need help putting outfits togther, check out some of the plus size bloggers, find something you like then copy it with a combination of shopping your closet and perhaps something new.
Here’s a list of blogs. They may not all be current. Find a blogger that you can identify with then scroll through their posts and find something that says you.

jlc3: I agree with the PP, wear something you feel awesome in!
We did a more dressed up look (I wore a teal dress, fabulous shoes (I really loved the shoes, I chose the dress based on the shoes!) and a denim jacket. He wore dark denim jeans and a blue sweater that I love on him.) The colours worked together and they complimented our skin tones (pale with red hair and light eyes.) But the photos I love the best are of us in jeans and hoodies. He wore an Irish Rugby hoodie and I wore a Team Canada Hockey hoodie and skinny jeans with sneakers. They are so ‘us’. I’m glad we had 2 looks and I’m glad I went with one of them that just felt like the two of us everyday (though I wish I’d worn boots. I usually wear boots with my skinnies and the sneakers look weird to me.)
Find something you love that flatters you and go with it. And don’t go too far outside your comfort zone.

jlc3: Can’t go wrong with a neutral dress and a plaid shirt! If you like the country look.
If not, jeans and cozy neutral sweaters for the fall. Avoid wearing a bulky scarf, I read that somewhere, it makes you look neckless.

Omg, you guys are amazing, thank you!
julies1949: as always – spot on advice! I am going to do just that right now! Thanks for the link.
winterwoodlandbride15: you guys look great! Loving this, my guy wears plaid shirts 5 out of 7 days a week so this could totally work for us too!

I would avoid anything too tight or form fitting if you have problem areas that you don’t want to be accentuated. I am not considered “Plus Size” but my hispanic thighs and tummy are pushing me on the larger end of the “normal” side of the body shape. (I use that word loosely because i’m not entirely sure what the proper term is).
I wore a shorter dress and a cardigan to hide my arms and made sure that the dress cynched at my waist and the cardigan was a 3/4 sleeve so it didn’t look like I was trying to hide everything. I also wore wedge heels to elongate my legs to make them look thinner. My dress was definitely flowy to cover my thighs so that wasn’t an issue.
Loved the pics, worst hour of my life in those darn heels. Also make sure that if you’re wearing a shorter dress, you wear shorts on underneath. My photog had us in some weird positions to get certain shots of hour hands or our faces at weird angles. Had I not worn shorts, my Future Mother-In-Law would have seen everything in all it’s glory.

I think Navy looks chic on everyone. It is more interesting than black….. I’d look for a pretty Navy dress and nude shoes.

jlc3: lol… that’s not me! Just a stock photo I found, we’re doing pics this Friday, so I will post next week most likely. I consider myself plus sized, but Fiance has a great metobolism… I hate him. LOL
I’m doing 2 outfits, one ‘beachy’ look for our pics on the docks and with the planes (FI is a floatplane pilot)
Then my second look for the pictures in the woods/cabin we live in
Please ignore the mess in the background of our cabin that is my life in the summer. Also, ignore the tired look.. really wo does their hair and make-up in the woods anyways?!?
Fi will wear Jeans and white button down shirt for beachy look and his brown carhartts and blue plaid shirt for cabin look. I just hope it all goes together haha.

winterwoodlandbride15: I want that dress! Do you know where it is from?
We are doing ours when the snow falls. I plan on wearing a big cowl neck sweater in gray that goes waaaaay down to almost my knees, black leggings and black knee high boots…because that is an outfit I feel sexy, loved and confident in.

dmh426: The blue dress is from fairweather $20 (I’m excited to wear it on our tropical honeymoon too!)
The yellow eyelet dress I got on sale at Old Navy for like $12, good find! It’s sooooooo bright! haha
