I love the idea of a lace (or partially lace) wedding dress. But I’m plus size (street 22) and I don’t think most lace dresses are meant for plus sized brides. I also have had many self esteem issues about my body my entire life, now that I’m an adult I’ve been much better, but I know dress shopping will bring back a lot of my insecurities.
I’m going dress shopping soon, and I would love to see any plus sized lace wedding dress pictures! If you post, could you tell me the designer and dress ID? That will help a lot and give me some direction without getting too frustrated.

Casablanca 1914 I think, street size 18/20 dress size 22.

That is gorgeous and pretty much what I have imagined in my head! Did it come with the straps, or did you add them on? (I don’t want strapless, but adding them on or having a nice bolero isn’t a big deal to me)
Also, you look stunning.

look for A-line dresses which usually flatters most body types.
i also heard that cut/silhouette is more important than “pattern”/color- courtesy of what not to wear! maybe look for lace overlay? or maybe more structured pieces that have lace appliques. personally, i wouldn’t suggest an ENTIRELY lace gown– i’m looking for something that will add motion/break up parts of my body that would look huge without some “distraction”. good luck to the both of us!

It is champagne with ivory lace and the straps were added from another Casablanca dress. you can get lace bridal jackets, shrugs, and wraps too If you don’t want to alter the dress.

Joonbug, thanks for the heads up about all lace. I had pretty much ruled that out already, since that would show every little flaw!

My dress Allure 2569. I was aiming for a lace dress and mine is a size 22. With some spanx, I think you should be fine. Just look for an A-line styled dresses and you should be okay! Good luck!

I don’t see any problem with plus size brides wearing lace. I think cut and color are more important than fabric choice. I would go for a larger size lace detail though, larger patterns look good on larger women.

This gown from David’s has a removable lace overdress:
I actually ended up wearing this overdress (purchased from a different source) over an entirely different gown. I really loved the flexibility of having the lovely long sleeves but being able to remove them for the dinner-and-dancing portion of the wedding. It was like having two dresses in one! (I wore it with an A-line lace gown that had spaghetti straps, because strapless is not my thing either.)

My dress was purchased in a bridal size 16. By the wedding day, it had been taken in by about 6 inches (stress related weight loss … cause lord knows I wasn’t being good about trying to lose the weight), but here is the first fitting before all the alterations!

I agree that fit, style and shape are more important than fabric. It would look great but I am biased cause I LOVE lace. Here was mine and I was a street size 14-16 at the wedding.

Surprisingly some of the lace dresses really flattered my body. In the beginning of my wedding dress search the wedding dress size that fit me best was a 20.
