I love my lace dress! I think lace is so romantic and timeless! I got mine from David’s Bridal.

Here is that lace overdress from the David’s Bridal link (post #9 above) with the gown I wore.

Good luck on your search.  I’m a street size 18 and really wanted a lace dress but ended up with a screaming deal on a different dress so had to settle. ๐Ÿ™‚  I’m so jelly of all the beautiful dresses here! ๐Ÿ™‚

I disagree with some of the ladies on here that say you should stick to A-line. I have seen some real plus sized women ROCK a mermaid. I think the shape of the dress should be chosen to match the shape and proportions of your body, not the size of it. My cousin, for example, is a plus sized woman, but to hide her curves under a big dress would be a tragedy, because even though she’s overweight, she has a perfectly proportioned hourglass figure. I, on the other hand, while being smaller, need a little bit of volume on the bottom because my shoulders are much wider than my hips.

I think lace, and especially Maggie Sottero’s lace dresses, look wonderful on plus-sized gals. Good luck!!

@AdriannaJean:  I totally agree.  I actually think the look of A-line dresses on me is worse than the fit and flare type styles, in general.   I think it definitely varies with every person!

@amr5884:  Thank you SO much ladies – I really appreciate the compliments!

The dress is Pronovias Bermeo from the 2012 collection. I never had an ounce of regret after choosing it as “the one.” ๐Ÿ™‚

@AdriannaJean:  I second that!!  I looked horrid in ball gown and A line dresses.  Fit n flare and even mermaid’s were way more flattering.

It really depends on the structure of the dress.  I’m a size 20, bridal 24 and I ended up with the Maggie Sottero Lorie because it has a lace overlay over Satin.  It’s a slim A-line and has plenty of boning in the waist so it is very forgiving.  I was looking for a structured gown but also love lace, so lace over satin was really the best solution for me.

I also tried on an Allure lace dress that was 2 pieces- a charmeuse full length slip with a lace overdress.  It was pretty and the charmeuse was so soft, but it had no boning or structure and I didn’t like the way my stomach protruded.

Honestly, lace or the silhouette don’t matter.  It’s all about getting the proper fit and structure for your body type.
