I’m 6′, and got measured as a size 20, even though my normal size is 16 for pants. I am not a plus-size woman. As far as my other measurements, for the dress I bought, my bust is considered a size 13, my waist is a 20, and my hips are a 15.

Here’s a picture of the model in the dress I picked out. Let me know if you want any information. My dress is satin with pockets!

Stop focusing on sizing and just try dresses on.

Consultants wont put you in a dress they can’t get a size for you in. If you can fit regular clothes sizing you are not plus sized.

I bought mine on Amazon. I’m plus size. I didn’t want a traditional dress.  I did have to take it in and have the straps tightened. The dress was $85 and alterations cost $25.

You are I are about the same size and build, bee!

I thought I wanted a simple satin a-line, but fell in the love with the fit of a ball gown style with blush tones and lace instead. I think it helps to try on several styles and rule out what you don’t like. I thnk it’s better to try on more and eliminate rather than limiting yourself initially and later regretting you didn’t explore more styles.

I’m definitely in the go try something on camp! I also didn’t really care for any dresses I saw online and I am about your size but a little taller (5’10”). I ended up in a dress I never thought I’d get. It’s a shape I thought would look horrible on me and it’s full of lace which I didn’t think I wanted. But when I put it on, I just knew! I figured I’d go for something simpler! Here I am in a few different styles so you can see! My dress is the top left, but it’s before alterations so it’s a little big!

I hear you! I felt the same way about dress shopping & I have a similar body type. Everything I looked at for “plus size” was too much or gave no shape at all. Then I came across Karen Willis Holmes; she has a “curve” collection that’s for women like you & I, who are inbetween being thin and plus size. It was also helpful that the model had a similar body shape! I believe Justin Alexander has a curvy collection with size 12-16 woman in mind. I agree with other PPs to try things on but also search out some of these designers to maybe find some inspiration. Dress shopping was alot more fun than I expected. Best of luck bee!

I found my dress on amazon for $30. Belt was $30. Everything together was about $110 (veil, shoes, undergarments, CZ Jewelry, etc). It was perfect, no fuss, I didn’t have to worry about getting mud or bbq sauce on it (very casual wedding!), and I still felt like a beautiful bride. I believe on Amazon if you search deep V maxi bridal it will pop up!

I would say keep an open mind. I don’t know where you where looking at dresses, but there are sooooo many styles, that I don’t really know what you mean by nontraditional 😉

And it happened to a lot of brides that they try something on they wouldn’t have thought would look good and it turns out to look great. So I would say just go and try all the styles and shapes and you’ll be able to narrow it down easily. I drove myself crazy looking at sooo many pictures beforehand, but you just need to see them on your body.

Btw: Watters, Wtoo and Willowby have dresses in “plus size” as well and some dresses that are not that conventional in my opinion. Have a look at their page: http://www.watters.com
