Good Morning Bees!
I apologize in advance for the long story.
My hubby and I got married 2 months ago and decided that we wanted to TTC right away. I was on BCP and my doc instructed me to finish my pack in the first week of October and then try. So I finished the pack and we got started trying. Fast forward to now…. On Sunday we were in the grocery store and I started to get really tired. I thought it was just my blood sugar getting low because I hadn’t had lunch. But on the way home I started getting queezy. By the time we got home I had to run in our apartment because I needed to throw up. And throw up I did. And I had the runs (TMI I know sorry) The next day I was nauseaus all day and had the runs. The next day I was queezy and smells made me feel like I was going to throw up. Today I woke up with back pain and it hurts when I sit down…
Here’s the kicker… My period should start next week I don’t know because I’ve been on the pill and the times I wasn’t on the pill my body was back to it’s regular cycle pretty quickly. But usually right before my period starts I get symptoms that mimic pregnancy. I’m queezy, my breasts hurt, sensitive to smell, metallic taste in my mouth etc… What’s different this time is that I’ve never thrown up EVER. And I’ve been sensitive to smells but this was really different. Like things that should smell good smelled awful.
So… I can wait to see if my period starts and if it does then I’m not preggers. But what if my cyle is all screwy from the pill? I know I should know when I’m fertile and ovulating and if I were to guess when I had sex was during the week I was fertile. I wasn’t going to start using OPK until my next cyle. What will suck is if I’m not pregnant but I have the sypmtoms every month…TTC is so hard and I’m just getting started!
Oh.. I suppose I should have a question with my story. Has anyone else had this issue? If so how did you handle it?

I went off of the pill several years ago and I was terrified that I was pregnant because I had so many weird symptoms. It takes awhile for your body to get back to normal. That doesn’t mean that you’re not pregnant though! If your period is delayed, I would take a test.

@cmbr: Thanks. It’s just hard because when I was on BC and not even having sex I would get pregnancy sypmtoms before my period started. So I’m thinking that the only way to know that I’m pregnant is to wait for a missed period and not rely on sypmtoms.

First sign of pregnancy for me was constipation which is apparently a companion throughout your pregnancy. I didn’t start feeling nauseaous until a week after I missed my period and let me tell you that I had the worst morning sickness. Sorry, but throwing up and the runs sounds like you got a touch of food poisoning.
Stop evaluating random symptoms which may or may not be signs of pregnancy. Get out of the house and enjoy a glass of wine or something else like raw sushi which will be practically forbidden once you get your BFP. At the very least it will make the waiting easier.

I was so sure that I was going to get my period that I went out and bought a bottle of wine and a box of tampons. I got a positive on the First Response Early Result (commonly called FRER on the TTC/pregnancy boards) a few days later.
I had period cramps, period moodiness, and typical marathon training fatigue- because I was actually training for another marathon when we started TTC. I didn’t think much of it, since anyone who goes out and jogs 13 miles is probably going to be pretty tired!
If I were you, I’d go out and buy a pack of FRER. They are the best ones at detecting pregnancy before your period is supposed to start. I bought a pack of 3, since everyone who is TTC has an overwhelming urge to pee on sticks. I had already tested negative with a clear blue easy as well as a dollar store test, however as far as I know the ones I purchased were not marketed for use BEFORE a missed period.
If you get a BFP (big fat positive) then you’re definitely pregnant. If you get a BFN (negative) then either 1-you’re not pregnant, OR 2-you might be pregnant but not far enough along to detect with urine.
Coming off the pill, some people have a few long & wonky cycles as their bodies adjust. Some people don’t ovulate on their own for a month (or several) so if you test negative but still don’t get your period, don’t sweat it! If you don’t get a period or a positive after, say, 45 days, it might be time to call your doctor.
