BWLE:  I know you declined to be on the show, but do you know how scripted it is?

craftylish:  That is so crazy!

papillon20:  I agree with you about the higher end dresses that the show. Totally not my taste. Plus, I could never imagine being able to justify spending that amount of money on a dress, even if I had it.

I still like the show, but it’s not something that I tune into every week anymore. A lot of it seems to be the same types of dresses, and the same types of episodes. Although, there was an episode on today that I had never seen before with Sutton Foster. That was really fun to watch her pick out her dress.

As much as I dislike the cheap looking Pnina dresses, I’ve always assumed that they are silk and hence th eprice.

The photos posted up thread is a dress that clearly is silk, it’s gorgeous fabric.

I showed DH the two dresses earlier in the thread.  He said not for 10k – I can get the the dresses at Lovers Lane for $19.95.

FauxPas2012:  idk about the others but mine is dupioni silk. I didn’t know that until I took it to my seamstress and she said it was a super expensive fabric. I’m assuming that most of her dresses are also the same fabric.

So just out of sheer curiosity I decided to look up Pnina’s 2015 collection.

Is it supposed to be avant garde? I just don’t get the dresses. Is there a tamed down version that is sold in stores?

a_day_at_the_fair:  Well, there is silk tulle.  But yes, reglar poly tulle is very inexpensive. and scratchy.

But no doubt these things are over priced.

Pnina’s dresses definitely cost more than $1,000 to make. They are made from the finest duchesse satin, the finest lace, Swarovski crystals, and real pearls. The materials are imported from Europe, the dresses are made by hand, and they take hours and hours to construct. If you compare the materials on a Pnina dress to a dress that costs a quarter of the price, you can see there is a huge difference in the quality of the material. Her designs may not be for everyone, but the materials she uses are beautiful when you see them in person.

Also, not all of her dresses are $10k. She has quite a few that start around $6k.

I could have sworn that I saw normalacy in her 2014 collections, but when I went back to look at it I’d say 2, maybe 3 dresses where not hideous faux fasion skin baring dresses. In the 2015 collection I see none that are normal, so she is getting worse.

FauxPas2012:  I agree. The dress that Sutton Foster chose was beautiful, but I think it’s from the 2013 or 2014 collection. Not my style, but very beautiful. It wasn’t a dress though that made me think of a typical Pnina dress.

When I was looking at the 2015 collection, I was thinking of designers that show the runway versions of their designs, but that end up being different from what the typical person ends up wearing.

mildlybookish:

Wow, almost 100% of that collection is awful.  I would be stunned to attend a wedding where the bride wore one of these gowns.
