Some are really nice, but for the most part I agree with you. See-through lace corset on my wedding day? No thank you.

Hi there, I happen to have worn a Pnina Tornai dress for my wedding. It was not see thru nor was it “cheap-looking.” I also happened to get a great deal on my dress and would not have wanted any other dress.

I would never go out of my way just to put down the maker of a dress that I know other people own on this board. Maybe you should focus on finding your own dresses instead of putting other people down.

@Westie: way to stick up for yourself! πŸ™‚ The boards can be brutal sometimes but that’s what makes this country so great – a bunch of women with free speech πŸ™‚

I think that this designer is getting a bad rap due to the television show “Say Yes to the Dress” – there’s a bit of a stereotype going on with the clients in my opinion. Viewers only get to see the corset styles on the Pamela Anderson/Donatella Versace types. It would benefit the designer to have different gowns featured on different clients. Just my 2 cents. Would love to see photos of your gown if you have time (and if site is up and running properly). πŸ™‚

If you actually LOOK at the dresses Pnina Tornai has on her website, you’d see that she has a variety of different styles and looks. Not all of them are “tacky.” I wouldn’t judge an entire line of clothing just because they don’t suit your personal style.

I agree they are slightly over priced, but if someone wants to wear one, that’s her deal. I don’t think it was very appropriate to post something putting down a dress or designer that other brides on this forum have probably worn. Can’t you put that energy towards something else- like planning YOUR wedding? My dress isn’t Pnina nor did I try any of her dresses, but I would be insulted if I had.

I do agree the show makes it look like all she has is see through dresses but I never looked at her site so I can’t assume anything and there are just so many different tastes out there. I tried on about 50 dresses and only even liked 3. The rest I hated so much but I’m sure many people have bougtht the ones I hated.

There are a few of her dresses that are stunningly beautiful. If only ALL of them were lol.

I think the “see-through lace corset” statement, was just a generalized thought, which didn’t single out every Pnina Tornai design. With that said, I’m on fairly neutral ground with this subject. I think some of her dresses are really gorgeous, while I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing others. It’s a matter of personal preference, and that is okay, since no two weddings should be alike, just as no two people are alike. I can say one thing, however, which is that I could never justify paying the cost of one of her dresses. But, again, that is just me. My mom paid $3,000 for her wedding dress back in 1989, and I can’t imagine spending that much; possibly because of the financial struggles my family has endured, but to each their own.

The 4-5 Pnina dresses that get the most exposure on Say Yes to the Dress are a bit over the top.  However, the line has tremendous variety.

For what it’s worth, Monique Lhuillier is now moving in the see through corset direction.  The consultant who helped me one day at a couture salon in DC said that unlike Pnina, Monique will not add linings to the corsets.

@Riddles00: OK so I know some brides chose this designer but I agree with you that her designs are not that fab. A designer makes their line on their vision and in order to be a collection, it should be cohesive. So goes fashion, which I love (love going to the shows, love looking at fashion and trends, love my designer friends). Besides the see-through buisness… I do not think her designs are all that great. I think they look like many designs that have been seen before and is not at all innovative. She does not recreate herself nor has she shown the bridal fashion world anything to gasp at (besides prices and huge cage skirts). I AGREE! I would much rather spend on Vera Wang. Shes worth it. my opinion.

@Riddles00: There is no need to put down and generalize about any one designer or style of dress. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. That’s why there are so many different styles out there!

You are being inconsiderate and rude to those that adore Pnina Tornai and similar styles of dress. I doubt you’d appreciate it if someone said the same thing about Reem Acra dresses. Everyone is entitled to their opinion; but there is a way to express your opinions with tact and grace.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some of Pnina Tornai’s dresses are beautiful, and many would say some aren’t due to personal preferences. And the same could be said for any other designer. So although I wouldn’t wear a wedding dress with a see-through corset, I don’t think it’s right to scoff at someone who would. Don’t get me wrong, I know we have free speech and people should have a tough skin since it’s the internet, but still…have some empathy.

For the most part, Pnina is not my style.  But I LOVE to see her dresses on SYTTD for that very same reason.  If everybody had my phenomenal taste, this would be a boring world:)

And yes, she does have some truly elegant and stunning gowns.
