Myself and a friend were having this discussion today. She has 3 kids. She TTC for 8 months on the first and one on the other ones. She always counted backwards from when AF was due and tested that way.
She reckons there’s no way I’d know if I’m not KU yet when AF is not due until next Sat. Im 11DPO now and have a longish (15-16 days) I know I’m not out yet but I’m realistic in my expectactions.
I’m just wondering when people count themselves out? Or if anyone got a late BFP based on DPO?
Btw, I’ve been TTC for 11 months so not new to this. But only started testing early the past few months.

phoebephoebo: I guess I was kinda the opposite? I’d assume I wasn’t until proven otherwise. It took us five cycles, and I’d wait until I got my period or until my period was a couple days late to test after the first two cycles. I had quite a few symptoms the month I got pregnant, but kept telling myself my period was on its way. Best of luck to you! Hope it’s your sticky BFP this time!

I would say 12 dpo assuming I was certain of my O date. That’s mostly because I got a decent positive at 9 dpo in the past, and I guess I would assume next time would be the same. Just my own anecdote. I’m sure there are a good number of people who have gotten them later. Even if I had mentally given up, I’d probably keep POASing until AF.

I only have a 12’ish day LP at the most, so AF usually shows up before I can count myself out because of POAS.. But for the most part, I don’t mentally count myself out until AF shows.

When I was charting, I counted myself out once I saw the temp drop usually a day or 2 before AF showed. I’m on Clomid/trigger now, so I don’t chart anymore. I try not to test early, but I give in by 12dpo, which happen to be today. BFN, and i’ve been having my usual period cramps, so I’m pretty much counting myself out and just waiting for AF now..

MrsAKSkier: I actually have had a bfp before and honestly didn’t feel any different that month so I have to base it off of a positive pregnancy tests. At least I know I can’t symptom spot!!
GrannyPantiesRock: I was actually thinking that myself but was wondering what others thought. Though, my bfn this morning at 12dpo was not a surprise at all!
E_Lynne615: At least you don’t have to wait around too long for AF if your tests are negative. Drives me mad that I now have a 4-5 day wait When I pretty much know.
pinkshoes: Last month I didn’t get my first temp drop until 15 dpo and all it did was confirm what I knew 3 days earlier. I’m really sorry about Your BFN. I can imagine with clomid you have more hope/faith in each month.
Myself and Darling Husband have decided to go to New York next week if I’m not KU so I’m trying to decide at what point I count myself out and book my holiday!!

I waited 14 days after O (I was just going off CM). For me, although I hated seeing those stark white BFNs, it meant at least I was mentally prepared for AF. The BFNs were more upsetting than AF. By the time I got AF, I was just excited to start a new cycle and have another shot.

My last cycle when i actually was pregnant i didnt get a bfp for around a week after AF was due on my normal tests. I did get one on a FRER but my usual tests were supposed to be super sensitive and they just didnt show positive at all. I thought they were faulty but my very pregnant friend got a bfp straight away on them so not sure what went on. I wouldnt count myself out until AF showed up and if i was a week after she was due and still nothing i would see a doctor for a blood test.

I usually waited until I couldn’t take it anymore or until AF showed up. I tested this last time at 13DPO (2 days before AF was due) and it was positive and pretty dark so I wasn’t concerned about a chemical pregnancy at that point.

We are into our 4th cycle trying. I always tell myself I’m not going to test early, but by 10dpo I usually cave and test. When I see that early BFN I go ahead and count myself out and wait for AF. I’m such a pessimist.

phoebephoebo: I don’t say I’m out until AF shows up, but there are certainly times like 13-14dpo where if I don’t get a positive, I assume I am out. I try not to test early, because it only seems to cause stress, disappointment, and if I have a chemical, I honestly don’t want to know about it. It sounds like your friend is a bit more traditional in that sense and not so much a googline, POAS addict like the rest of us lol.

I knew I was out at about 10 dpo because it was when I would spot before AF (my LP was usually 11-12 days long, and I always spotted for 2 days before AF). I ended up getting my BFP at 9dpo the cycle we were successful, so I didn’t have to wait to miss my period before knowing.

I wouldn’t count yourself out yet. I kept testing negative when I POAS even on the day AF was due. The only reason I found out I was pregnant was because I was so ill with another issue I went to the walkin and their blood test showed I was VERY early pregnant (HCG was only 28) they said drugstore tests might not pick that up…which it obviously didn’t until A WEEK after I was told I was pregnant…then I finally got my BFP. Good luck!

phoebephoebo: We had been TTC for 6 months. I would only test if AF was late, which is usually around CD30 for me, which would be 13-14DPO I guess. Once, AF was 3 days late, argh, and I tested at 13 dPO and BFN. Then my cycle got wonky and I started O’ing later (around CD21) which gave me a shorter LP, but AF showed right on time. The second time I O’ed late (at CD21 again) the day for AF to start came, and but AF was not there. This was 10DPO, I tested and got a very faint BFP. Then retested at 12 DPO and got a very positive BFP. So I guess I would say, don’t give up until AF shows!
