So, a diamond has come to me, it’s been worn just about every day for well over 60 years and has some every day wear and tear. There are some (what appear to be) surface scratches on the top. there is a rather large table to the diamond and that is where the scratches are, do you know if those scratches can be polished out to restore the beauty of the diamond? Just wondering.

I think this is something you need to see a professional jeweller about… though I am wondering how those scratches came about. Diamonds are supposed to be the hardest things to scratch and the only thing that can scratch a diamond is another diamond.
Since the value of the diamond is based on the all the angles it is cut, you need to see a good and reputable establishment if you want the scratches polished out.
My 2 cents. 🙂

@Miss Squarepants: Thanks for your 2 cents. I thought the same thing about diamonds scratching other diamonds and honestly, if we didn’t find the original appraisal with the diamond, I would have just pitched it thinking it was fake becuase of the scratches.
