I do not engage in political opinions or social commentary on social media, regardless of my personal beliefs or my activities within my community.  So, to have an opinion expressed of any sort represented by using my child as a prop would upset me.

I would not personally allow my child’s image on social media, but that is irrelevant.  Because if I diid, signing a waver to allow my child to be photographed painting giraffes or playing with crafts is entirely different than lending my permission to use my children to portray an adult viewpoint for the purposes of advertisement or “likes.”

Often, these image consent forms have a line in them that specifies “release for the purpose of advertisement,” or similar.  Did yours say that? Either way, if you are uncomfortable with the situation, you may want to consider retracting your Image Release consent to prevent any similar situation in the future.

CherryA :  I agree with a PP that the (super inappropriate!) post is probably an indicator of what sort of attitudes the kids are being exposed to. I saw this segment on Last Week Tonight several weeks ago and it was really eye-opening. May not be an easy choice, but you may want to consider whether this atmosphere is the best for your daughter. Best of luck, I know it’s a hard decision when your daughter loves the school! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8yiYCHMAlM

CherryA :  That’s great then! Hopefully this is a wake up call for the administration and they don’t pull stunts like that again (whether on SM or in a classroom).

I think that using children’s photos about political issues has it’s place.  This isn’t one I would support.
