If you can do your reception for cheaper, do it. Spend your money on making fabulous memories on your honeymoon! Wedding is 1 day, honeymoon 14.

@Cachita: Gorgeous church! Really, its personal preference. If it was me, I’d have a nicer reception and cheaper honeymoon. I signed up for a package through my job where we get amazing cheap deals on luxurious vacations! We will be booking our honeymoon through my job.

I’s downgrade the reception but enjoy the honeymoon. As far as venue, have you looked into state/town owned beach property? A town owned venue which allowed us to bring in our own caterer made a big difference in being able to afford an oceanside reception.

Honeymoon hands down!  The recieption will be special because of the people there celebrating with you, not how much you spend on it.  The cheaper place still looks nice.  But travel cant be substituted… I went with a more budget friendly honeymoon to st john for 10 days, instead of greece like I wanted to b/c of airfare cost and other things, and I regret it now.

Honeymoon. Not even close. The reception isn’t just the venue – it’s the people, the atmosphere and how fun you make it! A two-week honeymoon will be an amazing experience for you and your new husband!

I don’t know how set you are on your date but if you wanted a compromise for both – you could see about doing a Friday night wedding and see if the expensive venue would do a discount for that.

HONEYMOON.  Your reception is a few hours of a one day ceremony, and if it’s anything like the 100 other weddings I’ve been to, everyone just wants to eat, get drunk and party.  Nobody will care that it’s by the sea or has marble floors or whatever!

Also, not to weird you out or anything, but a few of the older women I work with say they don’t even really REMEMBER their wedding receptions!  But they certainly remember the fabulous honeymoons they went on.

I am going against the grain and say reception. I would do a nice reception and do a shorter honeymoon. You could still have an amazing honeymooon, I would just cut back on it a little bit.

Personally, I’d go honeymoon unless something about the reception was really important to you. For us, it’s not even a question. We would just prefer to spend the money on us than on one night.

Honeymoon, all day long.  The reception is what, 5 hours and for other people?  The honeymoon is two weeks long and is for you and your fiance.  I’d much rather have ocean views in Europe than in a reception facility 🙂

I would vote honeymoon too.  Especially if your wedding is in the evening, no one will be able to see the gorgeous views once it gets dark.  And as a compromise, you could go somewhere with great views to take some awesome pictures.
