My SO have gone ring shopping twice. Once to learn what his budget could get and to see all the different styles of rings. The second time was to reassure him I liked a cushion cut. I’m happy that I know I will love it 🙂 A few of my friends SO’s had me figure out what they would want and then go shopping with them, others were completely surprised by the proposal the ring.
So, what about to Bee’s?

So far, I’ve just sent photos. I would like to shop together, but he seems to think that would ruin the surprise of it.

After we had the talk about our timeline, he asked me what kind of ring I would like. He did mention going ring shopping together, but we’re both pretty busy so I took it upon myself to stop by a jeweler when I was out shopping alone. All I wanted to do was get sized and to try on a marquise, and I fell in love with the shape. I designed something on JamesAllen and sent it to him as an example of what I would like.
Without my knowing, he took the pictures I sent him to a local jeweler and had my dream ring designed. So the proposal was very much a surprise, but I got exactly what I wanted 🙂

One night, my fiancé mentioned that he wanted to get my finger sized. I was thrilled because I knew that an engagement would be soon. A week later we went to a jeweler and my finger was sized, and he told me to look around to see if there were any rings that I liked. He was trying to see my style, and boy I’m glad that he did. I was looking at solitaires, but he said he wanted me to wear something with more bling that could be seen across the room, lol (bless his heart). I had pick out a solitare and came across another more blingy ring and told him I liked them both. He ended up proposing to me months later with the shiny ring. I was happy regardless.

We grabbed lunch and margaritas then stopped by a jewelry store just to look at pretty sparklie things…there sat the most gorgeous cushion cut that called to me. That was Friday. Monday we drove to a different city to look at a store that carries a gajillion rings. I probably tried on 70 different ones and absolutely none could compare. We literally drove straight back to the original store so we could see the cushion again and it was just as perfect as we remembered – in our margarita haze 😉
She came home with us that day and has been mine ever since (with a minor 6 week delay to plan the perfect proposal and give her back to me).

He asked me to go ring shopping with him without any prompting from me. He had been showing me rings online, and then asked me to go look with him. We went ring shopping 3 times.
ETA he had me pick my top 3 choices, and he would choose from there so it would still kind of be a surprise. It was very obvious which was my favorite (his too), and that is what he chose.

I’m a cushion fan too! I have an old cut cushion. But to answer your question yes we went shopping together to figure out what style I liked. Then my Fiance really got into the 4cs thing and the time we spent shopping was really fun. The plan was then for him to go off and pick a diamond from online USA sellers and have it set and surprise me when he proposed. As it turned out, once it was clear it was the old cut diamonds were a winner, he found an antique diamond dealer when we were visiting his family. So we went to see and found a corker of a diamond. Fiance did the deal without me but I had seen it. It looked so different when cleaned and sized correctly. And I was still totally bowled over when he proposed even though I had seen the ring previously.

We also shopped together and picked my rings together. After he put the downpayment on the ring, though, I was completely in the dark until he proposed!

We have gone together and are going again this Saturday for the last time.

My husband sent me a text asking if I liked gold or silver-colored rings and what size diamond is too big. I google imaged something like “round stone plain band” and sent him the link. End of discussion, lol. I actually love what he ended up choosing!

Complete suprise! I had zero idea. I did suggest emerald cut and platinum and he googled Art Deco emerald cut engagement ring, chose a picture and had it sent away. He was joking for months about not being ready to be married so it was a complete shock and pleasant surprise!

For my original ring he proposed with, we didn’t really go shopping together. He’d been planning it for like a year+ and on very odd occasions we would look in a jewellery store window and he found out i loved rose gold and solitaires. I wasn’t much of a fan of halos or gemstones, though since being on the bee I’ve grown more of a fondness for them. So he ended up proposing with a rose gold 0.33ct solitaire from Fraser Hart and I loved it and loved it more that he picked it out for me. However he rushed because he wanted it to propose with in time for our 5th anniversary and had the wrong size, like 8 sizes too small! So he took it back to the store and they said they will find it in my size and could take up to 8 weeks, bit long we thought but whatever. Weeks went by and we heard nothing so after a month we enquire and suddenly they tell us they don’t do my size so they are making it from scratch, ok… Thanks for the information, not! For the next month we pressed them repeatedly for updates and finally after another month it was done. Only when I inspected it it didn’t look right, the band was extremely thin and looked like it wouldn’t barely last a couple of years, it was wonky shaped, the diamond was very poor quality with a massive feather inclusion near the surface and it actually had silver cut marks going through the band! Basically they hadn’t made a new one, they took an old one and horrendously stretched out the band and soldered on a bit of metal! It looked like a appalling cut and shut job. Needless to say we returned it and went elsewhere! I didn’t want a replica of the ring by this point because it had caused so much stress and heart ache.
The replacement ring we did shop together. We looked online and in stores where we finally decided that I would not get what I want out of a retail shop and they were of insane prices and not getting that great a quality. I wanted a highly engraved band and a heart diamond, most said either they couldn’t do it or it was triple the price. We ended up going to the lovely Samara James where I got to hand pick my heart diamond (which was very important because I wanted it to have a certain shape and excellent cut) and custom design my band. Loved it, nothing was too much for them and we got it a third of the total price!
Sorry for the long explanation bee. So, nightmare getting there but ended up with something I loved and was within budget, as well as having the fun of doing it with my fiancé this time.

My fiance and I looked together…I tried on a bunch of things and showed him what I like and what I didn’t, and I was able to see how things looked on my finger…I had nothing to do with the budget, or the finished product – he did AMAZING – I couldn’t be happier! 🙂

Yes we shopped together because I am super picky and I didn’t want him to be hurt if I didn’t like the ring, because it wouldnt be because of him. Even the ring I picked i still returned because I grew bored. Now we are working on the next one fingers crossed!!
