Our reception is going to be held in a beautiful ballroom with chandeliers and damask panel walls. We are definitely planning to get uplighting for the room because it warms it up.
The dilemma is that for additional lighting (also called a wash) on the sweetheart’s table, dance floor, and cake table is going to run us another $450. The lighting folks says this really brings out the couple and the cake.
I also really want chiavari chairs for my wedding because they are so classic and elegant and would fit the ballroom so perfectly. The cost of the chair rentals would be about $600.
With our budget creeping up, I’m just wondering what would be more worth it to spend $ on…the additional lighting or the chiavari chairs?
Has anyone else had a similar dilemma? What would you do?

I struggled with the question of weather or not chivaris were worth the money and for me- they totally were!

I love the Chivari Chairs… I am still considering the chairs every day and If I have any $ left over I will get those chairs!

If its only one or the other, I would choose lighting. Though the chairs are elegant, people will remember the lighting before the chairs. Plus, this leaves you another $150 to work with.

I would definitely say the chairs! They totally add to the whole ambiance of the room. And in terms of lighting on the cake, if you’re worried about pictures, I”m sure your photographers will bring handheld lights/flashes that they can use if necessary.

Since you are already having lighting I would have to say the chairs. What kind of chairs come with your package? Are they banquet chairs? If so you may spend all the money on the extra lighting and the chairs will change the whole feel of the room.

I think since you’re already getting lighting you should definitely get the chairs (so it’s not like you won’t have any lighting).

What type of chairs are already there. The lighting makes such a huge impact on the look of the room, I say the guests will remember the lighting and ambiance much more than they are likely to remember what kind of chairs you had! We are doing a purple/pink uplighting and pink wash for Oct. wedding.

Go for comfy chairs before anything else. People will be spending a fair amount of time sitting and they will remember if the chairs are comfortable rather than pretty.

Does your dj bring any additional lighting for the dance floor? A couple djs I spoke to said they’d bring dance floor lighting at no charge. I would personally go for the chiavaris as I love them and you’re already doing some lighting.

Chairs, for sure. I’m not sure what kind of chairs come with your venue, but if they were anything like the ones our venue had, extra lighting might be a bad thing, haha!
We rented chivari chairs, and they were more than worth it. My husband fought me tooth and nail about the chair price, but on our wedding day, he turned to me and said, “Yeah, the chairs totally make the room.”

Chairs, a million times, chairs. I hate to say it but it really makes a huge difference in the room ambiance and adds an element of elegance, more so than lighting, I think…

@Miss Chapstick: Oooh good point. Great lighting + ugly chairs, nothing is going to help that one. Could you try haggling a bit for the price of your chairs? I got my Chiavari chairs for $6 each with some negotiating!

Gold chivari’s – for sure!

I’d say go for more lighting, the only people who notice chivari chairs are brides and they are very uncomfortable to sit in all night
