My ring is covered for any damage through the jewlery store.  I have a personal articles policy added on to our renter’s insurance at State Farm to cover it if is lost or stolen though.  It only costs us $30/year.

Insures through Jeweler’s Mutual as of 3 days ago! I’ve had my ring since September, so I was slow moving to do it lol

Another Jeweler’s Mutual… My ring was pretty pricey so needed specific insurance for my peace of mind. They did need some documentation 🙂

rae718 :  I’ve read that jewelry coverage isn’t all that good through most homeowner’s policies which is why I think it’s definitely worth it to get a separate policy through a jewelry only insurance company. I had Jeweler’s Mutual for one year but I sold the ring so I didn’t need to renew it. I didn’t have any problems with JM the first time but thankfully, I didn’t ever need to use the policy. So I figured I’d give Lavalier a try with this next one.

Yes, I have a stand alone policy (separate from my homeowner’s policy).  I didn’t want it on my homeowner’s policy because making claims can get a bit tricky. This way everything is separate.

12_Elle :  ohh okay. I was confused. Both of my rings are insured with a lifetime warranty through the jewelry store.  We also have renter’s insurance which replaces personal stolen items of high value as long as we have proof of serial numbers for each item. Don’t know if the ring would count.

rae718 :  My Fiance insured mine through USAA, which is who we have our homeowners and auto insurance through.

We took out a seperate policy on the ring rather than add to to homeowners. It was less expensive and coverage was better.

Mine is on our homeowners policy but I’m considering changing it to Jewelers Mutual so our homeowners rates aren’t affected if I ever have to make a claim on my ring.

I signed up with Jewelers Mutual the day after I got it. Good coverage, acceptable rates, and covers everything I want it to cover. I’ve had to make claims for stolen items on my home insurance before and it was such a painstaking process that I wanted someone who knows about jewelry.

I have jewelers mutual. I insured my diamond loose after purchase so it was covered during the shipping process. I previously had an experience with a setting getting lost in the mail so I wasn’t taking any chances. You can add the whole ring appraisal on later if you plan on buying loose first.

I don’t believe any jewelry stores ever cover loss or theft, only damage or defects, which is why it’s usually a better idea to get a full coverage policy specifically for jewelry. Most people aren’t thinking about damage that’s easily repaired when they get insurance, it’s usually more about getting it replaced if it were to go missing.
