queenie8119 : For SOME reason.. i seriously dont know… but food service industry workers at sit down restaurants and bars are not paid minimum wage. It is assumed that the tips you get will make-up the difference. I think this is how they keep food costs lower… but its seriously messed up.

With carry out I will tip usually like $2 bc someone (who is usually wait staff or kitchen staff, who are tipped out) had to pack up the order. Not as much work as delivery or waiting on a table, but still extra effort.

Jessi2883 : I usually tip $2 as well at resturaunts where waiters/waitresses are also the ones packing up carry-out orders. I don’t tip at fast food franchises and the like, but tips are often prohibited there anyways.

jellybellynelly : The server/kitchen thing is a whole different ball of wax that irks me. My husband worked in kitchens for YEARS and it always bothered me that they don’t get any of the tips (in most cases). I truly wish there was a way to tip kitchen staff.

mrskitty5 : I agree! My husband worked in a kitchen for a short time and he did receive a weekly tip out, but apparently the servers were really pissy about it lol.
One thing I notice is that servers complain when they get a bad tip because the food is bad – “oh well I dont cook the food, its not my fault”. But they don’t seem keen to share when they get a big tip because the food is delicious!
