Well idk about what it sounds like, but August is a pretty well known German boy’s name . Auguste in France l think . Augusta is an old fashioned English girls name .
I wouldn’t call a child of either sex August(e) unless l had French/German connections but l’m rather conventional about names .

Male to me. My great great grandfather is named Peter August.

I think male, because I knew a boy named August. He went by “AJ” to most people though. I think I also think of the TV show Covert Affairs, there was a male character on there named August who went by Auggie.

My grandfather’s name was August! He was born in August too, and was an immigrant from Hungary before WWI.
So of course, I think of it as a masculine name.

I love it as a girls name. It reminds me of Autumn.
However, have only heard of boys called August before. 🙂

August was my grandfather’s name so I think of it as a boys name, especially with the nickname being Augie. However, my cousin’s name is Isabella August, I loveeeee the name as a middle name for a girl. 🙂

TheGridMonster : omg, I thought I was the only one. People I know think I’m a bit weird for thinking the following:
April, May, September, January August are feminine months.
February, June, July, October, are masculine months.
March, November December are neutral months.
Don’t ask me why.

Historically it is a boy name with the girl version being Augusta (a name I love!!)
But nowadays people use colors to name their children so who cares if you use it as a girls name?
