I like Maxwell. It’s a handsome name, yet a simple one. Maximilian is also handsome, but a bit more difficult to spell for me. While your spelling is correct, I would have thought there could be variations. For instance the number of Ls (..millian, not milian), an a instead of an i (Maxa, not Maxi). But either name is nice!

Yesterday I saw some rare name list.. and Maxon and Maxome was on it as an alternative to the more popular Max names.
Inlule Maximus the most. Maximilian is too long and Maxwell reminds me of a coffee brand Maxwell House..

xo_futuremrsbear : THIS! This was my first thought! Gluteous Maximus! Your son would be named after buns of steel!
I voted Maxell or Maximilian, but I also agree with PP that you could just do “Max” 🙂

Maximus makes me think of Gluteus Maximus lol

Max was on our list and it was just going to be Max (after my great grandfather). We ended up using it as a middle name because it’s too common.

I love Maxwell. It’s classic, strong, can be seen as traditional OR trendy.
Why do people name babies Maximus? It sounds like something a guy would name his penis.

That’s the most hilarious and most true thing I’ve read all day.

I prefer Maxwell, but since you’re still up in the air, I figure it’s worth mentioning.. I work with someone who has a son named Maxon and another whose son’s name is Macs.

princessandthepear : Maximus makes me immediately think of gluteus maximus. Sorry, I hate to say it, but think of that poor child sitting through Middle School science class

ClaudiaKishi : I totally agree. My mother named me with a nickname in mind, and I am so glad she gave me the full name. I can’t stand it when people shorten my name.

Our 3 year old son’s name is Maxime, which is very common in France, where we live.
In the US I’d just go for Max!
Maximus sounds a little gladiator-y…

My dad’s name was Max. Just Max. It doesn’t have to have anything else though my favorite of those is Maxwell.

Just wanted to chime in and say thank you to everyone who commented and voted! My husband and I had fun reading the responses last night. I think I will be able to convince him to go with Maxwell, or we will go with our second name choice which we both like but is very popular/trendy right now.
