This is an extension of another post, but I couldn’t edit the poll. My boyfriend and I are going to an “adult prom” at a museum in Philadelphia in a few days. Dressing up is encouraged, and this is the most prom-y dress I have. Is this prom enough?
Edit: It’s optional to dress up for the prom theme. I’m expecting to see people there in jeans!

It seems more day time dress than evening dress to me. I’d imagine you could look pretty underdressed.
ETA: This dress is significantly more flattering on you than the first dress you posted though.

I picture this as something you wear over your bathing suit to the pool, not prom. Do you have a budget for a new dress? Maybe we can help you.

stephanie091512 : hikingbride : We only found out about this event 2 days ago. If I had more time, I would be able to shop around. I now only have 1 day and limited stores around me to go to tomorrow. Was hoping to just wear something I had. I’ll be PISSED if I buy something and only a few people dress up. Like I said above, it’s optional to dress up for the prom theme.
ETA: For reference, this is what 2 people are saying they are wearing from the facebook page:

missctomrsr : If this is an event they put on yearly, or at least one other year. Look up their album from a prior year, or their FB page. Either their website or their FB page should have this. See how “prom” like people dressed in the past.

BrideK2Wings : They put on events every month it looks like, but I don’t think they’ve done a prom theme before

I prefer the black dress from your previous thread- the short version- only hemmed longer than you showed. In the pic the hem is at a very unflattering point for most women. Hem it just above the knee and you will look classy. A LBD is always appropriate whether people are dressed up or down.

If you really have nothing else, it would be better to go for business-style (black pants a nice blouse, or a short dark dress).

I agree with PP, you can’t go wrong with a little black dress! I, however, also really like this dress. It’s not an actual prom and you can be sure people are going to show up in jeans, much more underdressed then you. And I think it’s a lovely dress that is appropriate for more occasions than just an adult prom, so you can wear it more!

missctomrsr : looks more like beach to me…

After seeing what the other people are wearing, I do worry that its too casual. Although I like this dress more than the black one, I’d probably wear the black one (still with it not pinned up as high) if you aren’t able to get a more prom-esque dress.

missctomrsr : We had “law school prom” so something similar to adult prom and we all wore cocktail dresses or evening gowns. I would wear the same thing that you’d wear to a formal wedding, if not a bit more showy. The dress that you posted here looks too casual to me and I agree with you that the black dress from your last thread looks too short. I can’t tell from the picture, but the fabric (to me) looks more casual so I’m not sure I’d choose that one either. My picks:

I do think this dress is far more flattering on you than the black dress from the other post, but as to whether it’s “prom enough”, well, it’s fairly similar to what I’m wearing right now at work. Accessorizing is everything, though – get a sequined shawl and some very sparkly jewelry and the whole look will be different.
