We only have about 8k in savings. I think I have 20k in my 401k (I just started two years ago)
we making really good money… Around 270k combined but have nearly 1/4. Of million in student debt from PA school. So right now we are making 4000k in payments a month to get that down.
If you want to have kids you can make it work on nearly any income.

Well, if my DH gets his way, we’ll have zero debt (of any kind) and about 120k in savings/brokerage accounts. Obviously, not all of that is for the baby, since it is likely we wouldn’t have a house yet. However, I’d like to take a few years off work and be a Stay-At-Home Mom and only work minimally from home. If I’m still in my career though, my DH will work from home and we’ll have a part time nanny or an au pair.

- Wedding: August 2013 - An amazing non-profit retreat
We just took all of our savings and paid off DH’s student loan, so now we’ve only got mine to contend with. He also just got a much higher paying job, so his goal is to get most or all of mine paid off before baby comes. Combined, that will have freed up almost $500 a month in student loan payments. Other than mortgage, we don’t have debt. We’re getting a couple of big things done for the house (about 2K total) and then we’re going to save the majority of my paycheques.
