We spent around $500 on photography AND videography, but it’s kind of cheating because we used friendors.

DH and I have a friend who is a pro marketing photographer and not in the wedding industry. But she offered to do our photography for free, and we knew we could trust her to take it seriously and do a good job. She would provide raw photos to me, and I would edit (I’m also in marketing and pretty practiced with Photoshop). She said her boyfriend, also a photographer, could use his pro video cameras to do the videography and video editing. We tried to pay her $200 to start, but she used that to hire a photojournalist she knows as a second shooter, and she turned down our offer to pay for a hotel room. When the wedding day rolled around, I talked her into accepting $500.

So long story short, we got two photographers for about 8 hours and an edited video of the ceremony and reception highlights for $500. Our photographer also edited about 50 of the raw files even though she didn’t have to do any of them.

@virgomasala80:  We’re spending $1000 on photography. We get two photographers (who are amazing), 7 hours of coverage, an engagement session, all edited photos on disc & release, and some of our favorites printed out. – I know, everyone is probably thinking “Wow, well they must not be that good.” I have a friend in the business (no, we’re not getting a huge discount because of that), but we live in a small town and her business is new-ish. Truthfully, I’ll admit what she charges is really inexpensive. The only “deal” per-say that we’re getting is that we’re getting pricing from a year or two ago instead of 2013. (We got engaged Christmas of 2011 and booked her right away.) We’re getting a steal! 🙂

$1400 for 5 hours (the package is actually 4 hours but we got the extra hours when the photog was running a special). This includes photography, editing, and print rights. No e-pics or extra goodies.

@MsSparklyBee:  Since I’m not really paying for photos, I’m curious — what does a $900 photo album include?

Mine is free. We are both in the photography business and our friends who we used to work with offered to do it as a wedding present. What a massive saving as we would have been VERY picky over the photography and ended up speanding a fortune no doubt.

    $3900

It’s our splurge item. Your memories are priceless. I didn’t want to try to cut corners with our photos.

We’re going with my FI’s family friend, and he’s giving us a great price. It’s usually around 2k, but we’re coming in less than 1k, including the album, a DVD, engagement session, and full day coverage. He even admitted that anyone who pays several hundred bucks for an album is getting scammed. The album costs photogs all of maybe $200-300, so he’ll sell it for 350-500, depending on the album, to make a decent profit.

Budgeting for $8,000! That includes engagement and boudoir session, 10 hours on the day of, prints, 5 albums and disc. And that’s with a discount. All worth it though. 🙂

I am finding out that photographers are very expensive. I do not understand why I have to pay hundreds of dollars for a couple hours of pictures and not get an actual picture just the cd with the notice that you can print them out!! Some photographers packages will include maybe 2 pics with the cd but other then that really nothing else!! I can have my childs sr pictures taken for a lot less and they will get outfit changes and different back grounds included and actualy pictures.

We have decided that were going to try and find a student photographer to take our pictures and pay them what we feel is appropriate and can work out with them.

It’s this type of rip-off that makes me wish I was more creativly thinking and could become a photographer.
