My engagement ring is in an elongated setting and sits flush against my finger, so I was at a loss to do about a wedding band. My ring is a .25ct princess with north-south pave and 18k gold.
So, I contacted the designer of my engagement ring, and they can make a custom wedding band which looks like this (sans diamonds) for $320 with 18k gold, which will fit with my engagement ring.
Custom Band (Sans Diamonds)
The thing is, if I go the cutom route, should I ever want to run around outside or just not wear my engagement ring, I would have to have a wedding band with a gap in the middle. Which is okay, but it’s trendy. My other option is to just purchase a normal wedding band, and change wearing my engagement ring or wedding band depending on the occasion. Here’s the band I’m looking at. It’s 14k gold with three small diamonds for $265.

Go custom and get the custom band soldered to your ering. You are asking for trouble wearing a ring with a massive gap on its own or not physically attached to your sturdier ring. It could snap or fall off or bend weirdly. That said I adore the custom band with a gap and say go for it!!
As for tasks where you can’t wear your set, just buy a cheap 2mm 10k gold band to wear running or doing yard work etc and have it as a spare.

Get both! Seriously though, if you can afford it that’s what I would do. I personally wouldn’t like not having the option of just wearing my wedding band, but I would also hate not to be able to wear my wedding band with my engagement ring.

get both. The price isnt bad for two.

I would get both, but also have the custom fit band with the diamonds in it! It would compliment yor ering so spectacularly. Also, echoing a PP, get them soldered together but have the other band as a backup!

You could always just get the one that fits with your Engagement Ring, and when you wear it alone, just spin it so the gap is toward the back. Voila, a plain gold band as your wedding band.
I’m debating on getting a band that has a slight curve in it so it will sit flush with mine, and if I do that, I will get it as an eternity band, and just spin the curved part towards the back when I wear it alone so it looks like a plain eternity band.

I think you should get both. One to wear with your ring and one to wear without.

I voted #1 but like other PPs suggested, would suggest soldering the rings together for the strength of the wedding band.
Though I do love the idea of a separate band (#2) to wear when you don’t want to wear your ering!

Those are great prices so I would get both.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the custom band, and then I’m planning to ask for the second band as a Christmas / birthday present. Fiance and I aren’t the richest folks in the world, but I feel as though this is a good compromise. I really value having a second band to wear alone.
Thanks for all your help, guys!

I definitely think you should get the custom one. It is so fun to be able to wear your bands as a set. I have a completely separate ring that I wear if I’m doing outdoor stuff where my other rings would get dirty/damaged.
