After reading your story I say band. Since the band will be free and you love the band and have such a connection with them it would be crazy to pass that up. You can always find another great photographer in the price range. They are a dime a dozen in southern california. Pluss you’ll have to pay the photog anyways but this way you get a free band. Any other band will cost A LOT of money.

Based on what you’d written – it seems like the band would add such a special element for you that would be unmatched.
IMO – you could find another photog to do similar work…. it might not be exactly the same things – who knows? it could be better.
But – you wouldn’t be able to duplicate the effect of the band.
That said – photos are sooooo important, since they are what you end up with.
ETA: I loved my photog and she was perfect on the wedding day. Was I disappointed with some of the photos? Yes – because for me, it wasn’t possible to capture everything I had in my mind…. I have some wonderful pictures that I will cherish for a lifetime and I loved interacting with our photog on the wedding day …. but, again, I think you can find that in other vendors – even though this photog is your 1st choice.

Wonder if he will be free if a friend contacts him with a paying offer? If you really want him, you can see if you pay a full or discount rate if he’ll book you then. Have they booked free events for things like this before?

“Wonder if he will be free if a friend contacts him with a paying offer?“
I wonder the same thing…
I’m not sure they have booked free paying gigs before… probably for their own family. I might as well be family though. He’s known me forever!
As far as paying the only reason I could ever have them is if it was on the house (family style) because I can’t afford what they charge for special events. I would consider putting a deposit for the roadies and gas and stuff down though.
At this point I’m kind of over it. I think everything happens for a reason and it doesn’t feel right anymore. It feels like a lot of trouble.
Oh and I talked to the photographer today. We have a really good connection and I have a really good feeling about them.
