So I posted this yesterday and got some advice from a few Bees and went back to the drawing board. These are 3 options I am considering for my Save-The-Date Cards. Please vote and let me know what you think. I’m also open to any suggestions and constructive criticism.
Thanks!
Original Post: I have been waiting for the longest time to create my STD’s because I really wanted to use Fiance and my e-pics, however he is taking his time arranging the photo shoot with the photographer. So I saw this GREAT pic of the aquarium (where our wedding is beeing held) and I jumped at the thought of using it. The design is completely different than what I had originally had in mind and I am needing some input from the hive.
My plan is to have this STD as a magnet (it’s 3.5×3.5) and place it in a card that gives a little

Option 1 Option 2 Option 3

Are you using black or neutrals in your wedding color scheme at all??

Yes. My colors are Champagne and plum and black would be the accents.

I prefer the one with the black border, but the champagne might be more wedding-y.
And not to be a downer or anything, but if that’s not your original photograph I think that might be a big copyright violation. I work for a company that makes a lot of magnets (amongs other things) and if we find out that the customer doesn’t “own” the photograph we are not allowed to print it.

@Westwood: Thanks! I never really thought of it that way. I guess I should look in to it.

I think #3 looks the cleanest and most elegant out of all of them. The words seem to pop out more with the black backdrop. #2 is a bit harder to read bc of the color font slightly blending with the background of the pic.

I think they look kind of amateurish. Also, I would be worried about copyright.

@Firefliesflash: How would you reccomend me to change anyone of these so that it does look a little more clean and professional?

a lot of people wait until 6months out to send save the dates, it may be best and more like what you wanted just to wait for the engagement photos

Option 3. The black makes everything pop, ties in with the shadows on the picture, and doesn’t take away from it or confuse the eye like Option 2 does. I don’t think they look amateurish, but do be careful of that copyright violation the other bees warned you about. Maybe consider taking your own picture and using it?

@cwat12: We sent ours about ten months in advance because we have lots of out of town guests, so I think it’s ok to send it earlier.
ETA: I wouldn’t worry about copyright since you’re using the photo for personal use, not to make money.

I like the third, but I think you should extend the picture to the edges of the page on either side– so that the black border is just a band on the top and bottom.
I’d also look into a different font– it looks a little too comic sans-y to me.

I might play around with them a little more (including the font), but seeing how I only have paint and word at my disposal at this point, I am kind of happy how they turned out. Granted, they do need some fine tuning, but I agree with the majority and like the third option. Thanks Bees.
P.S. They all look better in their larger version. The pic was shortened.
