I’m thinking of doing this too, because I can’t find any baskets that I like, and I’m not sure that my venue will allow us to throw petals. I’m also doing pomander balls to line the aisles, so I plan to do something similar. From what I’ve been reading, I’ll plan to use 5″ balls for the aisles and smaller (2-3″ balls) for the girls, since my girls will also be very young! Plus, I think holding on to a ribbon will be a lot easier than holding on to a basket. ๐Ÿ™‚

I made a pomander ball for my Flower Girl. I believe I used a 4″ styrafoam ball, the green kind, lol. I used silk flowers instead of real though. I wanted her to have silk because A) cheaper! and B) sturdier! I just pushed the little stem part into the ball as far as I could with my finger and used a ton of hot glue to keep it in. As for what kind of flowers, I bought a fake hydrangea plant and cut off the individual flowers or small group of flowers and used those. For a ribbon, I used a satin double faced ribbon and used pearl head pins to hold it to the styrafoam and more hot glue! It was actually pretty easy, but my flower girl would only hold it if I told her it was a “Flower purse” haha. ๐Ÿ™‚ This is the only picture I have with her and the pomander… she ended up bursting into tears when she was walking down the aisle and ran to her Mom, lol.

Haven’t decided yet on whether to use real flowers (wilt!!), fake flowers (only if they look real), or tulle/tissue paper. Some other bees have made really beautiful pomander balls out of tulle.

@AbbyDabbyDoodleBug, that is so cute!!! Love!

I am going to do a 4″ ball (or whatever I can find in my house, it might be 3″). I am going to stick fake petals on it as well as wired ribbon that I am going to curl, like around a pencil, and then stick it to the ball so it’s bouncy and fun. I’ll post pictures when I make it.
