Hi! I am also planning a wedding for under $5000 so I feel your pain! I wanted to share our wedding venue, the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort in Carlsbad. Their prices are very reasonable and they have beautiful spaces right on the beach! I would definitely check them out! If you need any other sugguestions don’t hesitate to ask πŸ™‚

We are doing our reception at an off the beaten path restaurant/bar that is perfect for our theme.  It’s on a Saturday night, and our minimum spend is only $3000.  So that would be the venue, the food, and the drinks.  Plus, if it’s a cash bar, anything people spend on their drinks (or more food they order, if you give them that option) counts toward that total.  Phone around and see what you can find.  this is our second choice of the places we looked – first choice would have been $10K or $12K, lol.

maybe check out the UCSD faculty club http://facclub.ucsd.edu/mod_events/weddings.aspx

i’ve been here for a prom and bar mitzvah and i really liked the venue. the website says it’s 1,500 to rent the facility, but it’s something you can look into. its spacious because it has different spaces (two indoor and one outdoor in the middle of the buidling) so you can definitly add your special touches to make the event yours. i’m not sure how they do the catering.

another place the san diego town and country in mission valley http://www.towncountry.com/d/towncountry/media/PDF/Weddings_Celebrations/TCWedPackages.pdf

i just went on their website and i feel like their wedding packages per person are fairly cheap compared to other hotel/places i’ve looked in san diego but i guess you just have to hunt for them depending on specifics you want. their cheapest package is $44.95 per person and includes food and one hour hosted bar.

in escondido, there’s this place called the hidden valley retreat and spa, which you can rent for the day ($3000) or weekend ($6000) and you basically have to do everything else.

good luck!!

@kawaiichristi:  Is crossing the border an option? My friend is had a lovely beachside wedding for around same budget (hosted reception and all) near Rosarito.

I am also working with a tight budget, $3000. So I am doing a picnic wedding at Santee Lakes http://www.santeelakes.com/picnicsandparties1.html . I found a place that does gourmet picnic lunches http://www.mybrotherscafe.com/  .We will be having it on thier “Island” so there will not be any looky-loos or strange children running through the pics…well other then my own lol πŸ˜€ They even have a new Gazebo on steroids . It is so nice but would have made me go over budget becaus eI would want to add draping πŸ˜€ Hope that helps.
