I’m from Massachusetts and we say “soda” around here (near Boston). We also call sandwiches made on long bread “subs.” My college roomie was from western Mass and she called them “hoagies”.

I’m in Southern California, we say soda 🙂 It drives me nuts to hear people call it “pop”, I guess because I’m just not used to it.

@MsMamaBear: I am all about you knowing the term “code switching”.  Are you an SLP by chance?

I say soda (actually I generally say Dr. Pepper as it is my drink of choice, lol), and I’m from  WI.

I am from Washington (State) and I call it pop most of the time, sometimes I will call it soda or soda pop. We actually had a huge debate going on this topic a couple years ago at a family reunion, which is why my cousin and I agreed to just start calling it soda pop since she was from Washington DC and always called it soda.

haha, my mister and i have this discussion a lot. he’s from michigan and calls it pop. i’m from california and call it soda. i refuse to call it pop even when he teases me. but he has used soda from time to time so i think that means i’m winning.

I’m from Georgia and almost always say “Coke.” We recently moved to Kansas and we couldnt get over the signs in grocery stores that say “Pop.” It drives me nuts. I prefer using “Coke” or “Soda.”

It’s POP in my part of Pennsylvania… (I think most of Western PA calls it POP!)  My cousins in Mississippi and Georgia call it “coke” even if they mean sprite or Pepsi!

Most people I know say pop (Canada), I either say pop or soda-pop (my gpa used to say soda pop all the time so it rubbed off!).

I grew up in Texas and I say coke.  My grandparents call it ‘soda water’ though.
