I hate it when people make popcorn at the office because of the smell.  It lingers all day long. So I voted no, because I think the smell would not be pleasant at the wedding–especially if it burned!

I love popcorn so much. I would definitely go with gourmet bags instead of a popcorn machine. At times, I wish that I would have done Garrett’s popcorn at our wedding, but the Krispy Kremes served as a late night snack, so no one went hungry during our wedding.

I love popcorn, so i voted yes. But I HATE the smell and taste of kettle corn, so if you go that route, its a huge NO for me.

I vote no only because of the smell. Unfortunately, no matter how big the room, the smell of popcorn will spread. If you were having a casual, outdoor reception, I’d say go for it!

We had a dessert bar that was set up for people right after dinner, but then we had the bartenders start up the popcorn machine about 9 or 930ish for a later snack. So if your concerned about the smell, I would hold off and do it a bit later so its a more welcome smell.

It was a huge hit at our wedding, it was supposed to be self serve but because of space issues the bartenders just kept setting out personal bags.

    I highly recommend!

We went to a wedding a couple months ago that included popcorn (they had a fairly casual appetizer buffet and included the popcorn). It was my favorite part 🙂 (but then, popcorn is one of my favorite foods, so I’m biased). If you’re doing a candy bar, I think it would go great!

If you’re worried about the smell, you could just make it ahead of time (that’s what they did at the wedding we went to). Or place the popcorn machine outside?

I agree with a late night snack. That way it won’t smell like popcorn the whole time and I am sure after some drinking everyone would love some!

I think it’d be great towards the end of the evening 🙂  Make sure you have M&Ms on the candy bar.  SO yummy together!

@thewheelsonthebus: i love m&m’s and popcorn together too! Fiance and i went to the drive in a few weeks ago and he went to the concession stand to get popcorn and i was like “i need m&m’s too, they go so well with popcorn”  he thought i was crazy.  I’m glad im not the only one who likes this.

What about popping kettle corn because that would smell sweeter and be less messy than regular popcorn.

Two of my best friends got married in April.  He LOVES popcorn and was in the film industry in CA.  Their theme was “Red Carpet”, centerpieces were popcorn balls in different colors and they even had an old theater popcorn machine in a corner.  It was so much fun and absolutely PERFECT for the couple and the guests.  Since we all knew the bride and groom so well we wouldn’t expect anything less.

@mrsreid:  Did you have a formal or informal wedding. I was thinking to do popcorn at 9 as my late night snack after formal dinner at 6.

we are thinking about a popcorn bar since we met working at a movie theatre, and wanted to tie it in! but we are concerned about the smell as well. I like the suggestions of popping it later at night or doing a popcorn and candy bar with it all popped ahead of time
