I’d go with pre-packaged. I’m just thinking about the smell. I like to eat it, but when I make microwave popcorn, my whole house smells of it, for hours. If guests are grabbing it, on the way out, I think their might be a line for it, or people leaving without it, becaue of the timing of the cooking.

Prepackaged. Easier to grab, less mess, and I’m thinking it will go stale less quickly if it’s sealed in a bag rather than exposed to air.

onceuponadream:  I went to a wedding where they had http://www.hamptonpopcorn.com/ tins there with little scoops and bags. Like a popcorn bar on the way out. It was fabulous! The flavors were all delicious and so different!

But, if you’re looking for regular popcorn, I’d say use the machine!

The popcorn machine is awesome but just think you need someone to run it or guests will have to make popcorn and they may not know how to. I attended a wedding where they had one and there was one batch made and then no one made anymore for the rest of the night. I think more people would eat the prepackaged popcorn.

we are doing this as the midnight snack, pre-packaged sweet popcorn only $1.45 for 10 bags

we went to a party that had the machine but honestly it was terrible… the waiting line was MASSIVE and the popcorn wasnt great plus being rushed there where lot of un-popped corn, they ran out of half the seasoning and non tasted like they where supposes to plus popcorn ended up everywhere because you couldnt shake it proply in the bags to distribute the flavorings – felt sorry for the venue there was stale popcorn everywhere that people had spilled or abandoned

We bought pre-packaged and stuffed it (ok my wedding planner stuffed it) into these cute custom bags.  It was perfect!

We had a popcorn machine and it worked out great. We were able to rent it from our venue (a hotel) and they set it up & ran it, so no hassle for us. Plus it smelled awesome!

    Pre-bagged!

Its only truly fresh for a moment anyway, and if its not being attended to by an employee who’s only job is watching it, it can burn and make everything smell awful in an instant.

We got prepackaged popcorn – it was popped and bagged the day before our wedding, so it tasted fresh.  It was flavored (kansas city mix, which is a blend of cheese, cinnamon, and caramel) so it had to be made ahead.  I think it worked out well – we just put the bags on a table by the door and people grabbed them on their way out.

I don’t care if prepackaged is easier, no one wants cold, stale popcorn.  Use the machine… Imagine the smell!

(although I do want to say the poster above who had flavored popcorn, obviously there’s a difference htere and it sounds awesome, too)

We did caramel corn as one of our favors (homeade by my mom- yummm!) and since we were in charge of clean up of our reception space, we prepackaged them up in a clear bags with ribbon! Guests loved it (still hear about how yummy the favors were) and they were easy to take home OR open and eat if they wanted a snack between dancing!

That’s just what worked for us, BUT fresh popped sounds amazing too!

If your intention is for the guests to take home the popcorn, the prepackaged is easier. There could be quite a line to fill the bags themselves!

I do like the popcorn machine idea if it’s there for people to have popcorn during the reception. That’d be fun!
